Not quite right. At the time that people posted on Mobileread about those issues, I tested on my Kobo Glo and was able to reproduce the issue. Modify the database and all looked good. Install the update and after the reboot, the Glo factory reset.

I cannot recall which firmware versions cause this, but three different firmware versions did cause a factory reset when the registration bypass was used.

It did happen and it is correct. Just because it's not happened since firmware 4.4 does not mean it won't ever happen again.

So really, there is no reliable registration bypass (aka fake registration).

Meh, I seriously doubt you tested the method I posted here on the Glow that did not work, but rather, probably a variation of the instructions that started this thread in the first place. Regarldless, it's a moot point. Whether or not this has always worked flawlessly, there is no guarnatee that it will always do so with future software versions.

The same should be said about SideloadMode. It's an unofficial and undocumented feature, and the functionality might (and probably will) change in the future. But for those who care to use them, they work *now.*... and that's the best anyone can say about anything.
