As far as I know you cannot purchase books using the Kindle for iOS app. (Amazon would have to give Apple a cut.)

Why? In nine years I haven't had a problem. On the very rare occasions I've ordered the wrong item, I received an email within a few minutes confirming the order. And, the problem isn't a random screen touch. It's touching the "Buy with 1-click button". If the button covered half the screen I could see an "accidental" touch but, of course, it doesn't.

Why I have some complaints about the system, making it more difficult to protect those who can't handle a simple system is a ridiculous solution.

Yeah, no. I'm looking right at the list of my individual devices I can turn 1-Click on/off for. So I trust my eyes more than your bias that's supported by some outdated help page.

I may have been wrong about it affecting digital purchases, but 1-Click CAN be turned off for individual devices. But regardless of all that ...

There will be no screwing by an accidental screen touch (for competent folk, anyway). You still can't buy an ebook without clicking a "Buy this ebook" button.

Tapping once on an item in a recommendation from the Kindle app's home page will not buy an ebook.

I'm not getting the problem. Nothing I can see in the new app makes it any easier to "accidentally" buy an ebook than it would be to do so in any of the older versions.

First off: do you have more than one registered Amazon device, Jon?

The link to your 1-Click settings page is:

The links/methods to alter individual device settings will look different (and be in different locations) depending on the device/browser being used.

I'm not making it up, Jon. I have 1-Click disabled for my browser, and disabled for all but one of my four registered devices.

Yes. I'm not refuting that 1-Click can't be disabled for digital content. That was my mistake. I'm just refuting Jon's claim that 1-Click in general does not have a per-device setting. It does. Whether it functions as expected is not something I've looked into.

But as I said, regardless of all that, I simply don't see how anyone thinks that "accidentally" buying an ebook is any "easier" to do in the new version that it would be in the old.

And Jon doesn't have the new version yet anyway, so he should wait until he does before commenting on how easy it is to make an accidental purchase.

It is easier trust me. You accidentally clicked on a book instead of the books in your library then the app hiccups because Mom decides to say Hi in messenger. Luckily I had a gift card balance and returning it was easy but it's a concern.

I don't HAVE to trust you (though, of course I do ): I'm using the new app. So I see how it works. One click on a book does not buy it. I see zero difference between this version and the older versions in the completing-an-ebook-purchase department. You still have to eventually click on an orange "Buy this Title" button. Hiccup-for-hiccup ... there's no difference.

There was never books you don't own on screen before they were little squares now they are the same size and easy to click instead of your own book.

I've always had recommendations I don't own on my home screen in the Kindle app.

And like always, clicking on one of those titles I don't own (regardless of its size) isn't enough to buy it. I still have to follow-up and click the orange "Buy Now" button on the next screen. Just like I have to do with any Kindlebook purchase.
