From what I've read in here the light should be the same color all over the screen and that is also what I would have expected from a $200 device (the price in Europe). If this is normal for Kobo I really should have bought the Kindle Voyager instead which is only $11 more expensive.

I don't understand the argument that the LEDs need to be visible to light the screen - as far as I know there are also LEDs at the top of the screen and those I can't see at all.
The issue is really the angle of the photo. At that angle, you will see the LEDs on all front-lit e-ink devices. When looking from a more normal reading position, you will not see these.

Looking at my Aura H2O and GloHD in the reading position and the light turned all the way up, I can see a slight variation in light across the bottom centimetre of the screen. But, it's not something I noticed until I compared it to my other Kobo ereaders. On the Glo it is noticeable, but the Aura H2O and GloHD it isn't.

And you can't see any LEDs at the top of the screen because there are none there. I think all of the Kobo ereaders have the LEDs at the bottom.

On my H20 I can easily see the variation in color at around 30% brightness, as written it's like yellowish rainbows between the LEDs that go maybe 2-3 cm up the screen from the buttom. I've checked with my friends 1st gen Kindle Paperwhite it doesn't have this so I wouldn't have expected the H2O to have it either.

Kobo readers with front light only has lighting LEDs at bottom of screen. Nook had lighting LEDs at top of screen for one model. This was worse because when reading top of reader is often angled away making light leaks more visible.

Ok that sounds bad and sounds like a faulty device. The H2O should have the best light and the 1st gen paperwhite, from memory, a relatively bad one. Get your H2O replaced.

One bad thing though - the H2O I got have this bleeding light problem. I already wrote the Italian reseller about this and I hope we find a solution soon. Other than that it's a great device!

Don't be - and because of the camera you can't see the yellowish rainbows on the picture, I've tried to shoot a picture of it several times but the camera compensates for it. So instead I took a picture of the LEDs to ask if that part is normal.

I don't know if you'll call it nitpicking if your H2O bleeds more light than the 1st gen. Paperwhite.

The rainbow doesn't sound normal. Being able to see the lights when you tilt the screen and having slight shadows at the very bottom of the screen are normal -- for both Kobos and Kindles.
