I like to create a collection of books that I have loaded onto my Fire HDX that I call "Extra Books". Then I add this collection to my favorites on the Fire Homescreen. And whenever I load another personal book/document on to the Fire, I just add it to that collection.

I can just touch the collection/folder on the homescreen and see all of the personal books that I have loaded on to the Fire tablet without having to navigate to the Docs area.

Much preferred.

I know with my actual books in the cloud they are separated but it surprised me that they were on the Fire as I had created several collection folders and some were collections of non-amazon ebooks (many from here at MR) and the folders seemed to hide themselves when I went looking for them. Eventually I caught on that they were stored under Docs instead. There was no such division on the PaperWhite or Kindle Keyboard. Amazon or not books were in one collection.

Yeah, I am with you. The way the Fire6 is doing the collections and just books also is very different from what I am used to. The only other fires I have are from 2012 and 2011 and I never used them for reading.

What I don't like about the Fire is how I can't sort the collections by recent. And how I can't see how many items are in the collections. And like the android app, I can't uncheck the collections I don't want a book to be in it to take them out of the collections. I have many collections and many books. I can do that on the paperwhite, I can go in a book and add to collection and then just uncheck or check and the book will be out from those collections. But its a PW1 and it takes literealy minutes for each book to do that its lagging so bad.

At least on my Nexus with the app, I could sort by recent and then I have to go into each collection, find the book and take it out of collection. But the last update has messed up the kindle app so bad I can't use the Nexus to read kindle books anymore. It looks up ever time I click on collections.

So I use the Fire6, but there I can't sort collections by recent and so it takes me forever to take books out of collections. I have to scroll through 100's of books in the collections.
After I read a book it goes into "read" and I have to take it out of the many other collections it is in. Like I said, I like to have many to sort my books by many means. Some of those books of course are docs really.

I think the Fire makes sorting a bit more complicated for me. I just wish they'd let me all this sorting and unsorting from the website. Now that would be an improvement.

You can tap on a book in a collection and then once checked go to the trashcan to either remove it from the collection or the device. At least mine allows that. Maybe it's a matter of me having a new one and you having an older Fire from before that was possible. Still can't sort which book of a collection is most recent though I don't think.

Yeah, that is the problem. Some of my collections have 100's of books in it. If I can find the book I need to remove from the collection, I long press it and send it to the trashcan. But I have to do that with every collection the book is in and most are in more than 2, sometimes 4. And since I can't sort by recent, its not easy to find those books. Don't know why they don't put sorting in the collections, they have it on the android app, but not on the fire itself. Silly.

On the paperwhite I can uncheck every collection I want the book out of in one go. But its just so slow and lagging.

I have a Fire6 same as you. My older fires don't have collections so I only had them on the paperwhite before and the android app on my Nexus until I got this new Fire.

The Kindle Android app is really buggy now. It refuses to show block text in italics. I had to switch to my Kindle Fire 6 so I could read my book because text was missing when I tried to read on my N7.

I can't even get that far anymore. As soon as I click on collections in the left bar, the bar slides out half way an gets stuck and the app is totally stuck. Until the pop up to either wait or close the app from the device. Its an every time thing. I can open the app and stay in books or on the carousel, but I find books by going into collections so there is that.
I even cleared data and all and uninstalled and re-installed twice and still the same issue. I did send off an error report in one of those pop ups I got to close the app.
I use the Fire6 now to read kindle books when I get tired of my paperwhite splotches. The new font Bookerly is really nice so I am reading more on it than the PW. Just so perfect in size for reading.
