One thing I've noticed is that the Carousel only shows the 30 most recently accessed books/icons that the user has either downloaded or opened. I like that. I have a good many books stored in the Amazon cloud and to have them all showing at once would be too cluttered (if they all showed up downloaded or not). This way even if someone had 100+ books downloaded they aren't cluttering up the home screen.

The very first Kindle Fire did that and the Amazon Fire Phone still does this. I had to use parental controls to block books. The Last 30 items is relative new since last year and multi select is new from this year.

If you flick the apps at the bottom of the home page up, the Carousel disappears.

You can also create folders by sliding an app on top of another app. The best way to do it is to slide it up from the bottom of the bottom app. You can also name these folders. Additionally, the same app can occupy more than one folder.

Today only, the Amazon HDMI Adapter for Fire Tablets (4th Generation) that I mentioned in an earlier post is 44% off...$13.99 instead of the usual $24.99. It can charge your device while connected to HDMI and works great with the Fire HD6 to watch movies on TV.

I like the true portability of the Fire. One thing I did notice is that I had loaded some MR books to it and then couldn't find them once they were in a collection. It turned out they were stored under "docs" instead of "books". Since they weren't Amazon books they went there instead of "books".

Me, too. I have two other tablets that I use every day: a 7-inch and 10.1-inch. The Fire HD6 is much easier to hold, and the screen clarity makes it great for reading. Some might consider its integration with Amazon's ecosystem to be a drawback, but for me it's a huge plus. Prime movies/TV shows stream perfectly on this device.

Answering a bit late, but it's probably an accessibility option. Back in my old job, we used to make handouts available on sepia, light pink and light green paper, because some students with specific learning disabilities found it much easier to read and comprehend text on slightly colored backgrounds. One staff member had tinted lenses for reading for the same reason.

Thanks for the explanation. Never thought about that and I can see the reasoning for it now.

Most Dyslexic people prefer to read on colored background. While this works for me on real paper on LCD not so much it hurts my eyes so it's Sepia or Greyish blue background. I prefer to read with a background image over a solid color I think this helps best on LCD for me.

And in the case of the black background with white text I can see how it would help as a means of being courteous to your spouse if you want to read in bed and not have a bright screen keep them awake.

I can't read on black background it makes me see blinds so it's Sepia if I have to pick but I use Moon+ which uses a paperback background to read on.

I have to use the black background in the car at night, as the bright white screen bothers the driver. It reflects against the glass.

A good point. You don't want to blind whomever is driving by having a bright light in their eyes any more than you want to disturb a spouse who is trying to sleep.

All personal documents placed on the Kindle Fire appear in Docs. Amazon bought books are kept separate (unlike the e-ink kindles). Docs works in the same way as Books, you can create collections etc, and if you have a collection that contains both books and docs it appears in both sections.
