The way to figure out what to do is if what you have to say still has any relevance to the topic. Do you have something new to contribute without rehashing what's already been said.

The fun with Columbo isn't figuring out did it, since they tell us right up front who did it, when they did it, and how they did it. It's watching Columbo catching him/her that's fun.
