Bannerman, Whistler, and The Butcher's Boy

My nominations for "hard man".
Either Whistler or Bannerman from the matching titled series by John R. Maxim. I'm just about to post a freebie today for one of these in the free forum. (retired assassin forced to get back in the game to protect his family/friends).
The Butcher's Boy from the Thomas Perry series. Similar theme.

Lot's of good suggestions in this thread, and thanks to Hard-Boiled Pat for starting this thread! I don't think I'd even thought of this as a genre, but it sure has lots of my favorite reads.
Brian Freemantle's Charlie Muffin series is truly wonderful, but it took me a while to get my head around the "hard man" designation for these (poster Fehrman's suggestion). He seems such a 'soft' hard man. No biff-bam-pow, no fast action, and Charlie can't even walk fast. But on further consideration, it's a great pick, and Muffin may be one of the hardest!

Creasy - A. J. Quinnell

Tough as they get IMO. Too bad only 4 books in series.

Actually there were 5. And yes I loved them all.

Man on Fire (1981)
The Perfect Kill (1992)
The Blue Ring (1993)
Black Horn (1994)
Message From Hell (1996)

I thought the Book was much better than the movie by a long shot. I liked the book being set in Italy than in South America. And inserting a bomb in the bad guys anus was priceless.

Mike Hammer's existence is based on the premise that he's the toughest guy in the whole world, don't you think?

My hard man, is my willie!
My jack the ripper!
It beat's the cr*p out of all; including women!

My 'hard man' is also called my 'rocket in the pocket', my 'flagpole' and my 'ax'!

Good luck with your Mr T 's

I am proud only of myself, and my own gear

Wonder why anyone would bother asking!
