Bannerman, Whistler, and The Butcher's Boy

			My nominations for "hard man".

Either Whistler or Bannerman from the matching titled series by John R. Maxim. I'm just about to post a freebie today for one of these in the free forum. (retired assassin forced to get back in the game to protect his family/friends). The Butcher's Boy from the Thomas Perry series. Similar theme. Lot's of good suggestions in this thread, and thanks to Hard-Boiled Pat for starting this thread! I don't think I'd even thought of this as a genre, but it sure has lots of my favorite reads. Brian Freemantle's Charlie Muffin series is truly wonderful, but it took me a while to get my head around the "hard man" designation for these (poster Fehrman's suggestion). He seems such a 'soft' hard man. No biff-bam-pow, no fast action, and Charlie can't even walk fast. But on further consideration, it's a great pick, and Muffin may be one of the hardest! KentE |

Tough as they get IMO. Too bad only 4 books in series. Helen |
