That's my thought too. When I heard it this morning, even I, who wants nothing to do with Apple, was shocked. He did have a huge impact on mobile computing. Would we have gotten where we are now without him? Yes, I think so, it's inescapable, but I doubt we would have gotten here that fast.

RIP Steve Jobs and a lot of strength to all his loved ones and his coworkers.

My first computer was an Apple IIe. It didn't have a hard drive and all I did was play Lemonade Stand on it.

I think my favourite quote so far has been from Obama:

Quote:
Steve was among the greatest of American innovators--brave enough to think differently, bold enough to believe he could change the world, and talented enough to do it.

There's not a single person on this planet who has had such an incredible influence on the direction that personal computing and digital technology has taken within the last 40 years. From the original Apple, to the Mac, to the iMac, OS X, iTunes, iPod, iPhone, iPad, etc., no other person has had such a long ranging reach into technology. His vision will continue to influence the direction of computing for years to come. RIP Steve.

That's true enough. He helped shape the latter half of the 20th century and the early part of the 21st. Maybe someone else would have come up with the 1st PC in time but Steve Jobs and Stephen Wozniak were the ones who actually did it.

He was an innovator for the world. An inspiration to individuals. But most important, he was a loved one to his family.

I spoke earlier about Steve Jobs being a great pioneer.

I remember the Apple IIe. There were other personal computers available but the Apple was the most sophisticated one available in the 80s. The college let some of the professors in engineering have them to become familiar with personal computers.

The old 6502 processor!

There is a lot to the story of Apple. 3 guys started it. Then 2 guys, And finally only Steve was left. The first guy to leave got $800, the next, Wozniak, got a lot more and though not a partner any more is still on the payroll. Steve of course is a billionaire.

I think that Steve Jobs real genius wasn't so much in the software or the hardware but it was in the design of the total system, and what it would do as regards the user and it was also in selling the computers. The man could sell the proverbial icebox to an Eskimo, and the Eskimo would pay 50% more just for the privilege and have a smile on his face as he got some ice cubes.

Steve would just wave his hand, and say "Its magic" and all the penguins and seals would jump up in a chorus.

The world of consumer electronics will miss the heightened pulse and excitement that Steve Jobs brought to the industry. Innovations will slow. The man had vision.

He was only 2 years older than me. One thing for sure, he led a great life. He was lucky to get the last 7 years after he found he had cancer to tie up loose ends and see his baby rise to such heights under his management. I will miss him and feel for his family and friends.
