[QUOTE=khalleron;1735524]It's a sneaky way of trying to bind people to BN.com store. So it's not only stupid, it's borderline dishonest.
At least Amazon and Apple are upfront about their walled gardens. BN seems to be trying to wall their garden without anyone noticing. Sneaky.[/QUO For the most hysterical and dramatic response in a forum. The oscar goes to... |

Every e-reader has its inconveniences and most of them have been talked to death. This is the first time I have heard of this particular issue and I find it silly/stupid/dumb. We are discussing memory allocation not format. BN is the only ereader to partition its memory so that people who want to side load books cannot use all the available memory for that purpose.
That is an inconvience. People who have Sonys, Kobos, and Kindles do not share that inconvenience. They can side load all the books that they want and use the memory on their devices how they see fit. |

I wouldn't go that far. It is a good device with a silly way of allocating memory space. Most people who buy the Nook are going to shop at BN and so they will probably never know that this inconvenience exists.

I know this memory division exists. So as long as I know, I won't be able (in good conscience) to recommend the nook at all.

why not discuss format, you guys have brought up just how what an inconvience it is to pop an sd card into a slot is. So yes let's talk about how inconvienant it is if you have a ton of ePub books and you have to strip the drm and convert it to mobi and then sideload it. Or if you want to buy a book from a major publisher outside of Amazon that you again are forced to strip DRM and then convert. That's not silly/stuupid/dumb? but of course since that is amazon then of course it's not an inconivence but since it's the nook poping in an SD card is like being stranded in the middle of the ocean. Whatever the double standards are amazing on here. Something tells me if the Kindle had the same setup you would be singing the exact same song I am. Because I mean having to strip and convert is not a big deal is so I can remotely see how poping an SD card into a slot could be, right? Also is this not your quote in red from the previous page of this thread? Quote: Originally Posted by Caltsar The nook touch lets you browse all books from one area. The fact that it's a Nook or that it's a debate I'm involved in? __________________ Last edited by boswd; 09-09-2011 at 09:27 AM. |

but since you seem to have some moral high ground position on the matter I find it ironic being you have been pimping Sony ereaders for the past few years on here. And up until the unreleased latest models , Sony has been far and a way the least consumer friendly device on the market. 1. They have been extremely overpriced compared to the competiton. 2. They have the worst, at best, bookstore among the major 4 in terms of pricing and selection 3. Only their high end Sony 950 line allowed downloaded wirelessly. All other models you have to download into a file and sideload even books from Sony's OWN bookstore. So forcing non 950 owners to sideload your purchased books from the Sony bookstore is not an inconvienance but is also very consumer friendly? But poping in an SD card isnt . Again you only pimp Sony. so please spare us the act. Last edited by boswd; 09-09-2011 at 09:29 AM. |

Again please, with the act. " In Good conscience" whatever! Let's bring some reality to this discussion. 1. JS Wolf you only recommend Sony's and anyone who's been here for awhile knows that so whatever. 2. You get 240MB for sideloaded books, that's a good chunk of books. Also the Nook has an excellent Archiving system for space managment, that you guys all tend to overlook 3. You have the option to simply pop in an SD card if you need more space. A 2G card is really really cheap and would be more than enough space for most people 4. Having an SD card slot allows you to control just how much memory you can have forever. Something you can't do on a kindle. To me THAT is a feature, a great one at that. so please let's all bring this down to reality and not some "I own a kindle so I'm going to nick pick the nook" "I own a Sony so anything the nook does is the AntiChrist" Both the Sony and the Kindle have their host of inconvience's all of which make having to pop an SD card into a slot seem like a walk in the park. It's a simple SD card people. Last edited by boswd; 09-09-2011 at 09:30 AM. |

I tested now. They are visible in "All" but not in "Books". "Books" only show the books in the internal memory. But that is really a reasonable and good functionality.

Because it has been beaten to death. People who buy Kindles know that they are not going to be able to buy EPub books and conveniently add them to their device. And because it is not what is being discussed. While I appreciate your attempt to change the topic of conversation from something that people think is a weakness of the Nook to something else not related to the Nook, it is pretty transparent. |

With the Kobo touch you can search your entire Library, thought it currently doesn't have folders to sort your books into. You can search the books by name or Author.

The nook has a memory division that leaves most of the memory for eBooks bought from B&N. This (IMHO) is a flaw that should be fixed. No other reader does this. One should not have to use an SD card when the sideload memory is full and there's plenty of memory left unused.
