1. Due to the hysteresis cycle; which only depends withe the frecuency. (50 or 60 Hz depending on each country) 2. Due to the Joule effect (heat of metal conductors) 3. This one i can never remember the name, but it depends on the Magnetic field (usually denoted as B) The 1st is passive; either functional or not, you get power loss. The 2nd is active; you only get loss, if the system is functional The 3rd can be either passive or active, and depends if the transformer is made from ferromagnetic material or not (diamagnetic and paramagnetic also). Ferromagnetic relate the B to H and M (Magnetic momentum). Quote:

I'm sure there are exceptions in fridge designs that do leak, but no transformer will leak power if it's disconnected from the mains by the empty space of a mechanical switch in the off position, right? For your #3, would that be inductive loss? Just a guess. I love electrical stuff and I love my Kill-A-Watt meter, but this would be a discussion for another forum! ![]() Last edited by ApK; 05-27-2011 at 09:03 PM. |

If it can last two days (in case I forget to plug in one night) I am happy. Of course, I have the JetBook Lite, so if my batteries run out, I just switch them. |

I knew there was a reason why I chose B&N over Amazon! Long live the battery!

A "page" on the Nook is a certain amount of text. I think the amount was chosen to roughly mirror the amount of text on a typical printed page. Depending on your font size, it may take 3, 4, or more screens on the Nook to get the page counter to increment.

I guarantee that's not what they mean by 'page turns.' Ambiguity is yet another reason why I think page is an inappropriate term to use for ebook locations.

Of course. But Joykins' point was that you can't read a 25,000 page book with the 25,000 page turns. You can only read an 8,000 page book before recharging, because each page of a book takes 3-4 screens to get through.

Hehe. That's some kind of light reading you're into.

Honestly, I've had my K3 3G for 6 months now. I recharge it when I think about it, which isn't often! I've never had it run out of charge, and I read for 2-4 hours a day. Now with my K2, I did get a low battery warning a couple of times with the same reading level.
My point? K3 and new Nook are both at the level where there is a distinction without a difference. Until we get to the next level, where recharges are automatic from ambient light and we don't ever have to consciously recharge at all, this whole argument is specious, IMNSHO. |

This. I, too, don't see the difference between 7 days and forever. Of course, I don't travel much...
