However it is the byte value ranges known as "locations" that we object to always being visible. If someone finds them useful out there for "reference" purposes, well you are obviously in luck. For the rest of us who just read fiction books (surely the biggest Kindle market given the small screen/unsuitability for PDFs etc) I just don't want it visible. The suggestion made by Starko above was a great one one of hiding ALL of that location/% information until it is asked for, and letting us have an extra line or two visible on the screen. Put it on the shift key or whatever and have it pop up like a dictionary does. A simple option to get rid of it is all we are asking for. That way the people here justifying why they find it useful can continue happily on, and likewise the rest of use who have no desire to ever tell anyone else about some byte value of a Kindle book we were reading can happily live without it ![]() |

Ok, I agree, having the choice to hide this info is a good idea.

Sorry for reopening old post, but anyway.
Huh, it is easier to convince people that % and locations is normal for digital ebook format than add option(s) to Kindle which supports multiple location infos. As I see on my Kindle 4 NT, percentage is great. But there is plenty space to add more infos. Why not add to settings more options for page numbers formats? There are some ideas. PERCENTAGE SETTINGS Percentage settings, it will be nice if you can setup to format percentage other than xx%. If you are reading a very long book XX% is not enough, so option to choose between XX% and XX.X% and XX.XX% it's very useful. BOOK PAGE NUMBERS Then option for "BOOK PAGE (calculated)". If, for example original book has 315 pages, then you just add as option for this book that in original it has 315 pages. After that is easy to programmers to add to code to calculate page number: ROUND(percentage/100 * 315 pages) = real page number VIRTUAL PAGES NUMBERS Or, if you do not know how many page book have, then you can use "VIRTUAL PAGES". For example, there is for sure some "non typed standard" how many characters or words are used per one page. So for kindle is then easy to calculate you VIRTUAL PAGE. (lets say for example that this is 250 words). KINDLE PAGE NUMBERS And last one, if you would like that Kindle counts your real KINDLE PAGE, depending on your current font size and margin, and every time you turn page you get +1 page. So there is for sure space for all 4 page infos at bottom of the screen. Some of them are maybe "stupid" or useless for some people, but anyway, in option you can turn on/off whatever you want. P.S. Anyway, I have read Crime and punishment epub file on Aldiko and also on Kindle. Aldiko shows BOOK PAGES, so it isn't unusual and no one can say that it can't be done. |
