Mobi is still the dominant player based on number of ebooks sold. Just because more places sell EPub does not mean that 1) there are more epub books avaialble or 2) that EPub is dominant. |

I'm surprised more aren't going this route, You can now have both bookstores, ePub support, library lending all without losing your Kindle Library and still the ability to shop at Amazon. I think if you own a kindle device, owning something like a nook color (rooted) is nice marriage. |

I welcome competition. I don't want amazon to go away, it's keeps BN on their toes and keeps them to improve and vice versa. Last edited by boswd; 01-19-2011 at 11:21 AM. |

It seems that violating B&Ns terms of use by rooting carries the same ethical concerns and unsupported tech issues as does space-shifting ADE content. The only reason to add a nook color to the mix as I see it is if you REALLY want color display, and are willing to read on a backlit LCD, are ok with shorter battery life, and have an extra several hundred dollars to spend on it. |

I would not buy a Nook COlor, I would buy an android tablet. That way I don't have to worry about hacking anything and I would have all the access I needed.

I'd actually like a convertible tablet PC, if they were better and cheaper than they are currently. Android is interesting, but still too fractured for my liking. I'm probably a generation or two away from taking the plunge on any tablet, but I like the idea.

doesn't dell have that "flip" laptop, where the screen folds down and you have an instant tablet. albeit a 3 lb tablet. But I thought it looked interesting.

Also the Nook will run both B&N DRM and Adobe's DRM. If they wanted to LOCK people out then why allow Adobe DRM on the nook? They could have done what Amazon or Apple did and made it near impossible for the average person to buy books from anyone else but them.
But I can buy books from Sony or Borders just about anyone else and even borrow books from the library without any difficulty at all. How is this locking people in? |

Yes, they do, at $550!!
http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-duo/pd And it's just a netbook-class Atom processor. Too rich for my blood. And I can only imagine how fragile it might be. My boss had a Fujitsu convertible a few years back. It fell apart on him. Like I said, I'll wait for another generation or two of pioneers to take the arrows in the back. I think it's pretty clear that the idea of a tablet is more than a passing fad. I suspect that is where personal computers are headed in general. ApK Last edited by ApK; 01-19-2011 at 11:33 AM. |

Essentially, BN is not going to be losing business to those stores and BN knows that. It is like telling folks that you are free to shop from our fully stocked grocery store and hey, its ok to bring in stuff from the store next door. The one where the shelves are half empty and everything is over priced. It looks nice but really, there is not much there. BN looks magnanimous and still makes money from the sales of its ebooks. |

I was considering getting one, but all the reviews report a poor (3h) battery life, and dismally slow performance. I posted a thread in the Lounge about it.

I shop at Kobo a heck of alot more than I shop at Barnes and Noble. BN is nice and convienant but when I'm planted at home I'm an avid shop around and Kobos coupons are the best. |
