I gave my husband - not tech inclined at all - a Kindle3 for Christmas and he hasn't stopped playing with it since.

I was kind of hoping he wouldn't like it so I could use it but it looks like I'm going to have to get my own.

Haha, oh darn! You must be heartbroken about that!

So if you got a Kindle, what did you think??? If you gave a Kindle, how did they take it???
How funny?! I can think of a few people that could be inserted in that exact scenario.

(And just as I was typing this, I received a text message from a friend who gave his girlfriend a Nook for Xmas asking if I had time to answer some "Nook" questions. LOL ... )

My wife got me a Kindle 3 (3g & wifi) and it seems nice. The browser & pdf support are excellent.

I am an embedded Linux kind of person, so I will immediately want to get an SSH client and external keyboard so I can use it for remote administration when I'm on the road... The iPhone is useless in this regard.

I got a Nook and a Kindle. As mentioned in an earlier thread, I am still up in the air as to which I like better and am going to ultimately keep. Each has their own advantages/disadvantages. I like the Nook's screen better, i.e., the whiter background, choice of fonts, library capabilities, and the touchscreen is kinda cool. But the weight and battery life are negatives. Plus, an ereader that may lack future support (if BN goes under )

I like the weight of the Kindle and insane battery life and can now download library books (thanks to google research.) But the proprietary thing is an issue. Question: Do DRM algorithms ever change? Will I lose the capacity to do so in the future? Also, what impact will Google ebooks have?

Still deciding...one's going back.

I knew about mine ahead of time, since I had to order it myself.. but between the time of it arriving and today, I have had a great time with it. Already 66% or so through Ayn Rands Fountainhead (reading it again, although first time on the Kindle). I already have 30 or so books on here.

I'm an avid reader and never thought I would read electronically. I found out by accident that I was getting a Kindle 3 for Christmas and because I get my books from the library or the bargain bin, etc. I thought I would never pay $10 or more for my books just to be able to read them electronically. I figured I would send it back, etc. Well, I'm addicted to it! I have already subscribed to a blog to tell me where to find free and bargain ebooks, have downloaded a few word games, etc. and I'm loving it! I've already got about 20 books downloaded. I'm disappointed that the classics are the only books free on a normal basis - as I've read them all and have print copies. But I'm learning of ways to find more contemporary novels, non fiction, etc. at no or low pricing! Love Love Love my Kindle 3!!!

I thought the same thing.

In just the two days I've spent with my new Kindle, I've fallen in love with it. This will definitely be a big game-changer for me!

I think all of us avid readers and lover of books thought that way at one time. The only way they could pull us from tree made books was to make the reading experience that much more pleasurable.

Mom got me the Kindle 3 with wifi only for Christmas I had to order it myself and she just threw me her credit card, so it was very anticlimatic with no surprises as to what my Christmas gift is, but I'm not complaining! We ordered it Christmas eve, so I'm still waiting. I swear, this is me right now. I keep going, "Aw, still in Phoenix! *refresh* Still in Phoenix! *refresh* Still in Phoenix! *refresh*"

I mostly read books, but for the Kindle, I'm actually quite excited about trying out a New York Times subscription!

I got a Kindle for Xmas and I was shocked to find out that I am unable to get books from the library. It is a bit of a disappointment. I have been trying to get some help on how to convert them. I am having trouble with the DRM.

PS I am on a Mac
