Exactly my point. A clip on light is different technology than a frontlight. Amazon frontlight is different from Kobo frontlight. Only because they both use leds doesn't make them the same. Why does one combustion engine have more horsepower than one from a different manufacturer even though displacement is the same?

Which Kindle model is waterproof? If none, and Kindle is the best selling e-ink device, is the market really demanding waterproofing? Aftermarket waterproofing is available, by the way. ![]() |

The voyage and oasis do the same thing with essentially the same parts. Yes the oasis has some extra bits thrown in but they add nothing new and at best questionable improvements over the voyage. |

Speculating about battery consumption ...
In 2010 I bought a Pocketbook 360 which, as others have already said, had the asymmetric page turn buttons plus an accelerometer so the text was always the right way up when you swapped hands. I thought it was cool. Unfortunately my experience was that having the accelerometer enabled made the battery drain much faster - to the point where I was obsessively rechecking the battery level - not ideal when trying to enjoy a book. In the end I had to disable the accelerometer feature for peace of mind. Has power management technology improved a lot in the last six years? If not the 250mAh for the case-less Oasis doesn't sound like much battery life. |

![]() Like you, I have a strong preference for symmetry, but the device's lopsidedness isn't bothering me as much as expected. Since my hand/thumb would partially cover the wider side, I anticipate that my brain might perceive the screen as more centered. I could be wrong about that, though; I'd have to try it. The Oasis looks like it's easier to hold, which for me is a huge plus. I'm not tempted to buy one, though. Too pricey for my budget. |

Before I'll pay a premium price for an ereader, Amazon needs to add both waterproofing and a flexible substrate. Not one, but both. |

Quick question: who on this thread has experience of design and manufacture of electronic devices, especially ones with complex circuit boards (phones, tablets etc)?
I just need to know who to take seriously when they talk about it being "easy" to put the same set of components in a smaller case. |

Why is Amazon calling this a premium reader? With phones or tablets premium usually means better build materials, better resolution, better processor, more memory and more storage. I don't see where the Oasis has any of these.
I was thinking that more LEDs might be considered premium, but if they are on the side instead of the bottom you have to have more or else it would look bad. The design is different, but I didn't think it would be called premium. So what's premium about this device? |

Still say it's ugly, and now I'll add overpriced. The tapering on it will not allow it to lie flat on a table without the cover. They have just shifted the weight/battery to the cover from the sound of it. My prediction: Amazon Phone Fiasco 2.0 - overpriced device that appeals to few customers.
At least I still have my Paperwhite 3. |
