Is this now an 'official release' of the firmware? I am still unable to upgrade so I'm guessing my device is faulty and it's time to return it

Apart from the problem described in this thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=167973
When choosing the CooReader as a reader, you can not turn pages with the stylus and you have to do with physical buttons.

You dont have to unzip anything.

Firmware Updating:

1. Copy the file to a sd card and put it into your device
2. Just for case if your battery is not charged properly connect the reader to the wall charger (or USB Port of your PC)
3. switch off the reader
4. hold the ok /joystick button pressed and switch on the device.
5. Wait approx. 10 minutes till the device restarts

That's it
I am still hesitant to update to 1.7, as some members had to go back to 1.6, when you expect the next update to be ?
thanks

My devices freezes when I go to Bookmarks page (after firmware update some site appear just in bookmarks and not in web sites page). I happened with most of the 1.7 firmware versions (1.6 had no https, so I could not authenticate to my home network). The only way to wake up the device after freezing (besides resetting) is asking for firmware update (reset+joystick, holding just reset does not work) and this also resets the time settings.

Also, the browser still looks that it's done by lazy programmers which just put it there to add extra specs to the device page. Is is that difficult to show a progress bar or any indicator that a page is loading, to show an error page when site is not loading and to pop-up on-screen keyboard when you press on an edit-box?

line_edit.cpp:(.text+0x665): undefined reference to `ui::NumberDialog::NumberDialog(QWidget*, QString)'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
feed_reader is still missing the feed_action.h and feed_action.cpp files.

libcrypto (openssl) is still missing in the toolchain. (We know how to insert it - so it's more a nuisance than a real problem - and on a second thought, it could possibly be even an advantage, because it forces developers to use recent versions )

(that is: cp3 and feed_reader simply cannot be compiled - I have no clue as to whether the versions in the repository are up-to-date or not)

The kernel repository is missing a lot of crucial files
I'll attach a file list from a diff with the freescale kernel sources their kernel is based on.
Examples are:
initramfs_data.S initramfs_data.bz2.S initramfs_data.gz.S initramfs_data.lzma.S initramfs_data.lzo.S
(needed to build the initrd - these are the ones creating the first of a series of errors stopping kernel compilation )

I wonder why they removed them... some are indeed not needed (e.g., arch/alpha/*.S), but then again, neither are the remaining files in arch/alpha (which are included).
One could almost get the impression that they're making it explicitly hard to use the sources :-| .
Anyhow - the list of missing files is attached - they should simply add the full kernel source tree.

naboo_reader, gui_shell and system_manager are still closed source, but it seems very likely that these are not licensed under GPL anyway - so we can only kindly request access to these source (or a developer program)... I guess we'll eventually have to switch over to OpenBoox, since too many things cannot be properly done without the source.

W.r.t. the firmware: as I pointed out, I'd greatly appreciate the enabling of multiple gray levels for scribbling (I'd then update color_pdf_tools to interpret the gray levels as colors rather than hijacking the scribble styles). I deem this a very useful (and after all I see low effort on their behalf) modification.

One thing I'd be curious about: Does the naboo_reader rewrite also address the annoying space omission bug?

Cheers!
For the build problem of CR3 and feed reader, file https://github.com/onyx-intl/toolcha..._imx508.tar.gz. was just updated.
The shared libraries: libcrypto.so, libssl.so were added. You can try to compile again.

Please use rss_reader now. Since the rss_reader is maintaning by the Onyx dev-team now instead of feed_reader.

Concerning *.S files - why do you need the assembler files (just out of sheer curiosity) ?

(Answering for myself, and not the original autor)

Three reasons:
  • legal reason: the Linux kernel is licensed under the GPLv2, so you have to provide integral source code;
  • ethical reason: you should contribute back to the community that gave you the code in the first place;
  • technical reason: you simply can't compile a working kernel for the device without them.

Hope someone at Onyx understands this before I go through all the reverse engineering work or the FSF gets involved.

I installed the latest firmware published in this thread ..
I noticed what I think is a little bug
in latest firmware it's present even the thumbnail of cbr or cbz files..
and that's ok, but why is shown as thumbnail the last page read instead of the first page ?
I've got an M92S

Most of the source code is in C, and for those, the assembler code is generated by the compiler. So only the C source files are required to build for those. However, in some cases, the author has written the source code directly in assembly level language rather than C, so deleting those is a problem.

If there are no .S files at all in the package, then I'd say that whoever put it together just deleted them all to save space, not knowing that some are source code. If most are there but some are missing, then I'm sure the explanation is more complicated.

It seems the issue with the stopping pen has been worked on. It now happens much more seldom than before! Only several times after a lot of testing. This is very good news, indeed, especially if they continue their work on the issue.

dear booxtor where can I find an updated firmware for m92s ?
I tried the m92 one but it seems to me slower than the previous one,
most likely cause it have to check the pen use etc..
there are even some more buttons on the screen for the pen touch that are not present in the m92s one ..
so where can I find updated firmware for m92s ?
I understand that you don't sell the m92s but it would be a professional behavior by you to give a bit of support even to us poor m92s guys.

best regard

Hi Booxtor

Is it a completely new software or a new version of the existing one?
How soon is "soon"? Are we looking at weeks or months?

tks

Listing PDF titles... if you have any

The author and title listing is a very nice addition. But what should I do if my pdfs don't have proper metadata? The list view is messed up now showing improper metadata instead of file names. Is it possible to toggle viewing file names vs. titles? Maybe this would be a crucial fix.
Best,
A.
