Yes, it is! So another answer for Bilbo! It's a bucket on the end of a lever, used to move water from the canal into the fields... Like this. Pretty common all over North Africa.

1. What is a BERIMBAU?
2. In Japan, who typically wears a KIMONO?
SneakySnake - everyone. Yes, it's 'formal wear' for men, women, and children.
3. A CASSOULET is a typical Occitan meal. What is it mostly made of?
Hamlet53 - Beans mainly, and some sort of meat.
4. What is the HARMATTAN?
Bilbo - wind in Africa
5. From which country comes the musical ensemble called MARIACHI?
Hamlet53 (faster than Sneaky) - Mexico
6. A SHADOOF would be most useful for which occupation?
Bilbo - A bucket for irrigation, most useful for farmers
7. What natural item is traditionally used to play the game of AWALE?
(Many of you have played this game... A manufactured one was very popular!)
8. What is a TILAKA?
Bilbo - The red mark on the head of Hindu women.
10. Of which country is PATO the national game?

So far,
Hamlet 2
Sneaky 1
Bilbo 3

That's true. They call it 'Buzkashi.' Actually, several countries have similar games, with minor differences. 'Pato' is one of the few that actually uses a net goal, unlike the Mongolian or Afghanistan versions. By the way, neither of the countries use a human head any longer, which was the original 'ball' for the Mongols and the Afghanis. The original 'ball' for Pato was a duck!

If you get tired of guessing, Google 'Pato Game' and you can see it and where it's played. Otherwise....
.....where is 'Pato' played?

OK, makes sense, since pato is Spanish for duck. Ergo, a Spanish-speaking country (and presumably not Spain). Horses and Spanish-speaking = Argentina?

T'is! That's one for issybird!

So far,
Hamlet 2
Sneaky 1
Bilbo 3
Issybird 1

And as answering the last can at best result in a tie, I'll supply the info...
The only remaining question is about the Berimbau.
It is a Brazilian musical instrument. It consists of a long wooden bow with a steel string and an emptied gourd attached to it. To play it, you strike the string with a small stick. You most often see it used in the practice of the Afro-Brazilian martial art Capoeira. It sets the tempo of the movements.

So... With three correct answers, the next question falls upon the shoulders of Bilbo1967! Give us your best!

Thanks Stitchawl - good questions.

Another multiple answer type question then (I'm not above stealing somebody else's good idea);

Continue these sequences (just the next one required, unless you want to show off a bit) and say what they are please?

1) Antwerp, Paris, Amsterdam, Los Angeles, ?
2) Uruguay, Italy, Italy, Uruguay, ?
3) Hawke, Keating, Howard, Rudd, ?
4) Baker, Davison, Baker, McCoy, ?
5) Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire, ?
6) Tehran, Yalta, ?
7) Phylum, Class, Order, Family, ?
8) Kurt Waldheim, Javier Perez de Cuellar, Boutros Boutros-Ghali, ?
9) Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Greed, ?
10) Kilo, Lima, Mike, ?

Not all of these are from the beginning or end of a sequence, some are random snippets - just so you know!
