The first three books in the Milt Kovak series by Susan Rogers Cooper are $0.99 at Kindle US. These appear to be at least semi-permanent prices, but I couldn't find these listed elsewhere on MR, and $0.99 for backlist titles is a pretty darn good deal to me, so I'm providing info here.

The Man in the Green Chevy, #1
link: http://www.amazon.com/Green-Chevy-Su...dp/B00DIR5B3I/
Spoiler:
Quote:
Chief Deputy Milt Kovak of Prophesy County, Oklahoma Sheriff's Department had a rapist and murderer on his hands. To make the whole thing really stink, the victims were little old ladies, the nice cookie-baking, sweater-knitting kind.

His prime witness is Mrs. Laura Johnson-about thirty-five, three kids, and absentee husband-the sexiest woman Milt had ever seen. She'd identified a man in a green Chevy emerging from the murder scene. Find that man, he figured, find the killer.

Between digging unsuccessfully for leads and fighting-equally unsuccessfully-his growing attraction for the warm and inviting Laura, Milt figures the only solution is a new line of work. But Milt Kovak's not the kind of guy to take the easy way out-not when there's a crazed killer waiting eagerly to help him.

Houston In The Rearview Mirror, #2
link: http://www.amazon.com/Houston-Rearvi...dp/B00EMM8EVO/
Spoiler:
Quote:
In Houston to help his sister, Jewel Anne--who has been accused of her husband's murder--Oklahoma Chief Deputy Sheriff Milt Kovick relies on the assistance of Jewel Anne's neighbors to help him clear her name.

Other People's Houses, #3
link: http://www.amazon.com/Other-Peoples-...dp/B00I82BFGU/
Spoiler:
Quote:
Milt Kovak, head of the homicide division for a rural Oklahoma sheriff's department, probes the mysterious deaths of five people from carbon monoxide poisoning.

If we've any francophone mystery/thriller Gentle Readers in the audience looking to try stuff in translation, Kobo Canada has a bunch of deep-discounted French-language sale titles including a lot of Ken Follett, Mary Higgins Clark, some Umberto Eco and Robert Galbraith (suspense pseudonym of J. K. Rowling), and others, mostly at the $4.99-$5.99 range (this is really cheap; normally these authors are priced at $11.99 CAD or more in French, non-couponable) for a limited time.

This seems to be a publisher pricing promotion; most titles are also discounted at iTunes and probably Amazon CA as well (for some reason, Google Play CA doesn't carry the usual francophone publishers).

Anyway, here are Kobo's sales page for the lot, if you're interested: Promotion: de 50% ò 70% de rabais & Jusqu'à 70% de rabais - pour un temps limité

For the non-francophones in the audience, I spotted a few $2.99 bargain novels from St. Martin's Press Minotaur Books imprint (non-couponable; I'm assuming that the prices are also good in the US and matched at the usual stores):
  • Blue Heaven by C. J. Box (SYKM, Wikipedia), a standalone suspense thriller involving children on the run after having witnessed murder, 2009 Edgar Award Best Mystery winner
  • The Highway by C. J. Box, another standalone missing children suspense thriller and another Edgar Award winner according to the blurb
  • One Dog Night by David Rosenfelt (SYKM, Wikipedia), 9th in his Andy Carpenter mysteries starring a New Jersey defense attorney which apparently involves a sidekick dog, if the series covers are anything to go by. SYKM tells me that books in this series netted Edgar, Nero, Shamus, and Barry Award nominations.
  • Unleashed by David Rosenfelt, 11th-in-series

I don't read much Charlie Huston because the language is a bit much for my delicate (But I'm still bad-ass) sensibilities. And I haven't read this particular one so I don't know if the language will be present. At any rate, The Shotgun Rule is 99 cents today:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000UZJQ32?

His books are fast-paced and quite good.

Two titles by Dallas Murphy are on US Kindle Countdown at $0.99 for about 5 1/4 more days:

Don't Explain is the third in the Artie Deemer series.
link: http://www.amazon.com/Dont-Explain-A...dp/B00KAJXCM4/
Spoiler:
Quote:
From Dallas Murphy, the Edgar-Award nominated author of Lover Man

DON’T EXPLAIN

The outrageously inventive third novel in what Booklist hails as “the superb Artie Deemer Series”

Artie Deemer’s dog Jellyroll, the star of stage, screen, and retail packaging, is getting death threats from a pair of crazed stalkers. So the twosome and Artie’s live-in lover Crystal, a professional pool player, flee to a remote island off the coast of Maine, only to discover that their hideaway is over-run with an assortment of colorful killers…and that there’s a huge storm rolling in. And that’s only the beginning of their troubles.

“Careening between over-the-top humor and edge-of-the-seat suspense, Don’t Explain is a delightful ride,” San Francisco Chronicle

“Straw Dogs meets Lassie,” Booklist

“Artie's third outing is jammed fuller of malice than a holding pen,” Kirkus Reviews

Apparent Wind is a non-series title.
link: http://www.amazon.com/Apparent-Wind-...dp/B00KAJX9NG/
Spoiler:
Quote:
“What John Irving or Kurt Vonnegut might produce if they wrote a novel about crime and real estate set in the Florida keys…hilarious and deeply satisfying,” Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel

Dennis “Doom” Lewis is a small-time conman who paid a big-price: a five-year prison sentence for forging a novel by Eleanor Roosevelt that became an international bestseller. He gets an early release to attend his crooked father’s funeral…and discovers that he’s inherited a sailboat and a Florida town that’s sinking into the sea.

But the town is on prime real estate that two warring developers want badly enough to have already killed his father for and will go to outrageous lengths to snatch away from him. Dodging bombs, corrupt cops, and crazed killers, Doom teams up with a Nyquil-chugging history professor, two documentary film-makers named Anne, and a drop-dead-sexy scuba instructor and her Seminole grandmother in an elaborate plot to swindle the swindlers and save himself from fatally living up to his nick-name.

“A flamboyant, comic nightmare. The author's best inventions are his characters -- gaudy as comic-strip villains, unpredictable as ancient gods and given to mighty mock-heroic combat of epic consequence. There is fun here, but also real fury in Mr. Murphy’s raging imagination,” The New York Times

“Dallas Murphy is right up there with Elmore Leonard and Carl Hiaasen.
I loved it” Donald Westlake

“Masterful. Apparent Wind is much more than an excellent crime novel,” Palm Beach Post

“A loopy, cynical, romantic caper novel. Daring and funny and smart,” Miami Herald

The Juan Doe Murders is the third in the Smokey Brandon series by Noreen Ayres. It's on US Kindle Countdown at $0.99 for about 5 1/4 more days.

link: http://www.amazon.com/Juan-Doe-Murde...dp/B00KAJXA5S/

Spoiler:
Quote:
“Tough, hip, visceral and lusty.” – Kirkus Reviews

Someone is killing illegal, Hispanic immigrants and leaving their bodies strewn like trash across Orange County, the playground of Southern California’s rich and privileged. But the murders go largely unnoticed, the anonymous, “Juan Doe” victims as invisible in death as they were in their hidden lives, toiling in low-wage jobs serving the wealthy…. until forensics specialist Samantha “Smokey” Brandon sees the gruesome pattern.

“A swift descent into sunburned decadence.” – Booklist

Smokey is an ex-cop and former Las Vegas stripper, a childless widow who has seen a lot of death in her job. But it hasn’t dimmed her compassion or dedication. These victims aren’t invisible to her. She won’t stop until she finds the killer, even if it means confronting her darkest demons and sacrificing herself to them.

“Moody, rich, impressive…the most distinctive new crime professional since Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta.” - Washington Post

Founder Member is the fifth in the Boysie Oakes series by John Gardner. It's at $0.99 for about 1 1/4 more days before going up to $3.99.

link: http://www.amazon.com/Founder-Member...dp/B00ZFQEWOO/

Spoiler:
Quote:
Deep in the heart of London a secret meeting is taking place.

Drastic plans are being put into action.

But Boysie Oakes, the suave, womanising special agent for British Intelligence, is unaware of the events unfolding around him - and is revelling in being free from the treacherous clutches of Special Security.

Boysie, his former boss Mostyn and Charlie Griffin, have set up their own Security Service, GRIMOBO.

Their first assignment has brought them to New York and Boysie has snatched a vacation at Cape Kennedy.

Life is looking up.

But, of course, something has to go wrong. It's just a small thing. Some light-fingered swine makes off with a Saturn V rocket.

What's more, Boysie seems to have disappeared too.

The same thieves that wanted the rocket want Boysie. For a change, though, they want him alive. Very much alive.

And totally functional.

Boysie’s holiday turns out to be the trip of a lifetime and he ends up travelling further than he ever expected. But all is not lost as of course a beautiful woman is also along for the ride.

And Boysie Oakes is about to be plunged into the most dramatic adventure of his career.

'Cool polished story-telling with all the sexy sidelines in the best James Bond tradition' Evening Standard

Before coming an author of fiction in the early 1960’s John Gardner was variously a stage magician, a Royal Marine officer and a journalist. In all Gardner has fifty-four novels to his credit, including Maestro, which was the New York Times book of the year. He was also invited by Ian Fleming’s literary copyright holders to write a series of continuation James Bond novels, which proved to be so successful that instead of the contracted three books he went on to publish some fourteen titles, including Licence Renewed and Icebreaker. Having lived in the Republic of Ireland, the United States and the UK, John Gardner sadly died in August of 2007 having just completed his third novel in the Moriarty trilogy, Conan Doyle’s eponymous villain of the Sherlock Holmes series.

Laughing Dog is the second in the Serendipity Dahlquist series by Dick Lochte. It's on US Kindle Countdown at $0.99 for the next 5 1/4 days.

link: http://www.amazon.com/Laughing-Dog-S...dp/B00KAJXAXU/

Spoiler:
Quote:
“Sensational writing, mordant wit, an intricate crime puzzle...” Harlan Ellison

Hardboiled private eye Leo Bloodworth and his self-appointed partner, fifteen-year-old Serendipity Dahlquist, are back in a wild and deadly new mystery that’s every bit as brilliant and memorable as SLEEPING DOG, a New York Times Book of the Year, a Nero Wolfe Award winner, and a finalist for the Edgar, Shamus and Anthony Awards.

“Dancingly macabre, packed with perils, pungent with humor.”
The Sunday Times (London)

This time, Leo and Serendipity are on the trail of a teenage runaway and missing pair of sapphire earring, two seemingly separate, increasingly dangerous cases rife with gang members, designer drugs, killer birds, DIY plastic surgery…and a terrorist plot that could plunge sunny Southern California into a permanent nuclear winter.

“An intelligent, playful, knowledgeable writer… Lochte has a great gift for the grotesquerie.” Los Angeles Times

“Deliciously humorous and touching.” Publishers Weekly
