Bargain @ $2.99 from Kensington (couponable @ Kobo, price seems valid in the other standard Canada & US stores, may or may not be discounted in other regions, etc.)

A Taste of Murder Box-Set, a 3-in-1 omnibus edition of the 1st-in-series for culinary cozy mysteries from Joanne Fluke (SYKM, Wikipedia), Lee Hollis (SYKM), and Agatha Award-finalist (for the novel included in this omnibus) Barbara Ross (SYKM).

This is the current Kobo Deal of the Day for Canada, though it seems to be a publisher promo price with no added discount (as Kobo sometimes also deducts from their daily deals), and with decent couponage, it looks to be a dirt-cheap price at under $1 per book if you like culinary cozy mysteries (the Fluke title alone has been on sale for $1.99 in recent weeks), especially award-nominated ones.

Dig into the delectable books that kicked off your favorite mouth-watering mystery series—collected for the first time, in one box set!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder
The First Hannah Swensen Mystery with Recipes!

A heroine with an insatiable appetite for solving crimes, Hannah's Swenson's popular Lake Eden, Minnesota, bakery, The Cookie Jar, becomes a site for murder. And her suddenly scandalous chocolate-chip crunchies top the list of suspects. . .

Death Of A Kitchen Diva
A Hayley Powell Food and Cocktails Mystery

Single mom Hayley Powell has received a plum assignment at Bar Harbor, Maine's, Island Times: to take over the food column. But when a rival is found face-down dead in a bowl of chowder, all signs point to Hayley. . .

Clammed Up
A Maine Clambake Mystery

Julia Snowden returned to Busman's Harbor, Maine, to rescue her family's struggling clambake business—not to solve crimes. But when a catered wedding becomes a deadly reception, Julia must put everything on the back burner to search for the killer. . .

Stephen Solomita's Forced Entry is reduced to $1.99 today, at most booksellers. This is the 3rd installment in his Stanley Moodrow hard-man cop/PI series, originally out in 1990. I've enjoyed this series quite a bit.
http://www.amazon.com/Forced-Entry-S.../dp/B00AW54CVQ
Another in this series was similarly reduced a few months ago, so perhaps some of you tried it then.

Also available at Kobo, B&N, Google, Apple, IndieBound for those who prefer other retailers.

Royal Flush is the 6th in Jake Samson & Rosie Vicente series by Shelley Singer. It's on US Kindle countdown at $1.99 for about 1/2 a day more. Other books in this series have previously been free or discounted, but I hadn't previously picked up this one, which is the last in the series.

Spoiler:
Quote:
The SIXTH thrilling mystery in the Jake Samson and Rosie Vicente detective series.

"Great bar scenes, a wonderfully wry narrative, and the obvious nonsexual affection between the Jake and Rosie will have readers clamoring for more." -Library Journal

Laid-back, unlicensed PI Jake Samson is understandably nervous about infiltrating a local Marin County neo-Nazi group called the Aryan Command. After all, he is Jewish. But when the doe-eyed teenage goddaughter of his oldest friend begs him to help her boyfriend--harebrained, reformed skinhead Royal Subic--Jake finds he can't "just say no." Turns out Royal, who's too terrified to defect, is not only disenchanted with his recent brush with right-wing extremism (which includes a regrettable tattoo), he's afraid for his life--and he has the murder of a Command member-turned-defector to point to for proof. But as Jake investigates exactly what the kid's gotten himself into, a complex conspiracy begins to unfold, including a plan to assassinate an outspoken talk-show host, a complicated web of local police and governmental infiltrators (some of them dirty themselves), and a possible international connection.

Jake turns to longtime friend, former tenant, and current boss Rosie Vicente (much has changed since their last outing), and the two embark on an adventure full of loathsome racists, menacing wannabes, and dangerous megalomaniacs amidst the Bay area's brooding biker bar scene.

"...surprising twists, and Jake's sharp-edged humor" -Publishers Weekly

"...one of the nicer guys in the private eye business, who operates in a relaxed, casual style without need for macho posturing.” -Washington Post

And Full House is the third in the series, at $1.99 for about two more days, before going up to $2.99.

Quote:
The THIRD action-packed mystery in the witty Jake Samson and Rosie Vicente detective series.

“Breathtaking action is offset by the wise-cracking Jake and Rosie. The tension will keep you reading all night long. Compelling characterization by Singer makes this series a must-read, with authentic details and witty dialogue.” -Mystery Time

A CULT LEADER, A CACHE OF CASH, AN UNHOLY MESS!

An ark in the middle of suburban Oakland was interesting but not strange by California standards. Even one built by peaceful cultists preparing for the coming flood. Until sometime private eye Jake Samson is hired to find Noah, their leader, who has disappeared with a lovely devotee and a quarter million in cash. The cult suspects foul play. The police aren’t convinced.

As Jake and his carpenter sidekick, Rosie, trail the wealthy visionary from a health-food factory in Sonoma to a casino in Tahoe, thugs, drugs and the murdered body of Noah’s attractive assistant add up to a lot less than a biblical tale. And Jake's got a gut feeling the floodgates are just the beginning to open.

“Jake remains his loyal, intelligent and quirky self, which is plenty to rejoice about.” -Contra Costa Times

Quote:
Beneath the still blue waters off Key Largo a woman dives into a dazzling array of color. But behind the shimmering schools of fish, somewhere in the shadows of the reef, a death trap awaits. In minutes one life will be expertly, brutally taken, and another plunged into a mean season of fury, obsession, and revenge... His name is Thorn, his world is mangrove islands, open waters, and the ghosts of a too-violent past. Darcy Richards was everything to him. Now, finding her killer is. Wading into a seething mystery, Thorn is catapulted into a nightmare of violence and deception. There lurks a sensual young woman with a hard come-on, an aging former mobster, and a diabolical ex-CIA man. What they all have in common is each other's mad ruthlessness -- and a little red fish that will make some people very rich, and others very dead...

And, of course, a bunch of US Kindle countdown deals from Endeavour Press - all at $0.99, before returning to $3.99. A few new ones (to me, at least) and some repeats.

A Turbulent Priest by JM Gregson is on countdown for about 4 more hours.
link: http://www.amazon.com/Turbulent-Prie...dp/B00OROA61I/
Spoiler:
Quote:
After five weeks of dry weather, the fields and roads of Lancashire are suddenly flooded by heavy Bank Holiday rain.

Roads are blocked, streams become impassable, and debris that has lain stagnant in the summer weeks is uprooted.

Among that debris - a body.

Detective Inspector Peach, with the help of Detective Sergeant Lucy Blake, must solve a case that, had it not been for the freak weather, would have lain undiscovered for years.

The body is identified as Father John Bickerstaffe.

But who would want to kill a man of religion who was widely respected in the local community?

As DI Peach and DS Blake delve into the life of the Priest, they soon discover that he is not the only victim in this case...

When the Bishop Hogan summons them to reveal shocking details of the secret life of Father Bickerstaffe, they realise that he had a terrible secret.

A secret which caused not only his downfall, but also his death.

Recently disgraced, Father Bickerstaffe left a wealth of potential killers in his wake.

As the case unravels, and the potential suspects stretch from religion to politics, DI Peach and DS Blake must ask, how far would a parent go to protect, or to avenge, their child?

'A Turbulent Priest' is a gripping crime thriller by a master of the genre.

Praise for J M Gregson:

Tom rides north to investigate – only to find himself embroiled in a dark, deadly political conspiracy, where even his swordsmanship and logic may not help him…

Can Tom solve the mystery of his brother’s death?

The Trumpet Shall Sound by Aline Templeton is a countdown deal for about 5 more days.
link: http://www.amazon.com/Trumpet-Shall-...dp/B00JF2CX86/
Spoiler:
Quote:
At the Ramillies Country House in Sussex, the Sixth Hartington Festival is taking place.

With peacocks strolling across the lawns to the sounds of classical music, Ramillies seems idyllic.

But then Eden Hartington, conductor, impresario, and founder of the Hartington Music Festival, is found dead.

No one seems to want to talk about what happened - except for Eden's daughter Anna, obsessive about her late father, who is determined to keep his memory alive.

Another death, that of Dominic Leigh, the gifted, wayward trumpet-player also threatens Anna’s beloved music festival.

Brilliant and charismatic, Dominic was the only thing that made Penny Beaumont feel alive. But with Dominic gone and her dependable marriage becoming suffocating, Penny feels the atmosphere at Ramillies is about to boil over.

When Anna announces that she is ready to sacrifice everything to keep the failing Festival going, including the career of Adam Beaumont, Penny's husband and the brilliant young conductor who has succeeded her father, there is no shortage of people who have a vested interest in stopping her.

Then she is shot and Adam is arrested for her murder.

Penny Beaumont is desperate to prove her husband's innocence.

But has her obsession with his genius blinded her to other, darker sides of his complex character?

'The Trumpet Shall Sound' is a brilliantly plotted mystery story that will keep readers gripped from the first page to the last.

Praise for Aline Templeton:

`Templeton's a considerable writer, both intelligent and intuitive' Literary Review

'Atmospheric eeriness . . . [and a] much-too-real feel' Oxford Times

She has worked in education and broadcasting and has written numerous articles and stories for newspapers and magazines. Her books include ‘Shades of Death’, ‘Night and Silence’, ‘Last Act of All’ and ‘Past Praying For’.

Hannay is sent undercover on a mission to Europe to uncover the meaning of the ring.

It soon emerges that a plot with terrible consequences is being hatched.

The murder was just one piece of the puzzle, and Hannay suspects that his old nemesis, Otto von Schwabing, is pulling the strings behind the scenes.

As he gets closer to unravelling the mystery, he finds himself in mortal peril.

All around him, political unrest boils just beneath the surface as post-WWI Germany struggles to deal with its new, crushing poverty.

An enigmatic, dangerous leader is gaining traction in the south of Germany.

Will Hannay crack the code before the conspirators seize power?

Or will a bloody coup plunge Europe into another war?

The Crucible’ is a brilliant new Richard Hannay thriller, bringing the hero of ‘The Thirty-Nine Steps’ back to life in a new adventure.

Surrounded by dense, dark woodland, the Hermitage is an exclusive school for girls.

One balmy summer's night, Sukie Melville leaves her room and vanishes into the woods.

The following day her body is pulled from the waters of the Menai Strait.

When Superintendent Michael McKenna and his team move in to investigate the death, the school's charismatic headmistress insists it was suicide - but McKenna isn't so sure.

With the truth inextricably bound up in the secrets and lies of the young girls, the investigation soon proves to be as labyrinthine as the woods surrounding the school.

Scratching the glossy surface, McKenna uncovers a dark and dangerous ethos underpinning the school.

Nothing in that hotbed of passionate, brooding resentments is what it seems, and no one can be trusted...

Courtesy of Mysterious Press, Stuart Kaminsky's Tarnished Icons is $1.99 at Amazon US

At Google: https://play.google.com/store/books/...d=MpCfrlhZWCsC

and possibly other stores.

This is the 11th book in Kaminsky's Inspector Porfiry series, a police procedural set in Russia. The late Kaminsky did as good a job as anyone, in my opinion, of writing believable characters with a lot of depth, and the series has been praised for accurate depictions of life in Russia. His backlist doesn't go on sale often, and is usually on the expensive side ($7.99 seems typical). If you're inclined, these price drops don't seem to last long, and I think this was last reduced for a brief time in late 2013.

Edit: just noticed that A Cold Red Sunrise, book 5 in the same series, is also on sale at $1.99.

Probably the same price at all the stores above, and as rarely available at sale pricing.
