I updated the patch for Aura One and Aura Edition 2 (and all other Kobo ereaders starting with Kobo Touch). This fixes the rotation problem on H2O and other devices.

I had KMS 8 + the 2c patch on my KA1 with firmware 4.2.8110. Things were working fine at this point. I then updated to the 4c patch for KMS, but afterwards, when KMS started Nickel, all I saw was the beginning of the marching dots after which the screen turned black (needed a hard power down to restart with KSM).

Thinking that the 4c patch was meant for the latest firmware and that maybe that's why Nickel didn't work, I updated to 4.2.8432 from within KMS (by dragging the .tgz file into .kobo). Starting Nickel, I had the same result as before.

I then reinstalled the 4c patch, but still no luck starting Nickel. Version 775 of KOReader (a nightly snapshot) was working before all this and still seems to work.

Would you have any advice @tshering?

I have no idea at the moment what is causing this. I have a look into it this evening. Right now I do not have any kobo reader with me.

You can try starting nickel another way:
  • select: (KSM home) tools > nickel something.msh > start nickel without fmon.sh (I cannot exactly remember the names of the entries, but you will be able to identify them, when you see them.)
This part has not been changed by the patch, and should therefore work as it did before. Be aware that the exit pngs and so on will not work, when nickel is started in this way. So you have to power off to exit nickel.

Just tried that and I get the same result. One point to note is that it could be that it's simply the display that is all black, and the app isn't dead. The reason is that if I tap the screen, every few taps it flickers between all-white and all-black a few times, before settling on all-black again.

I overlooked one detail in your first post:

With this FW you have to install all three components of the update package (you have to copy all three items: KoboRoot.tgz, (the folder) upgrade, and the checksum file to .kobo). Otherwise it works the same in KSM as usual (handle update > install partial update).
Without the updated kernel nickel does not work properly. If I understood correctly, the problem occurred already before you installed the 4.2.8432 KoboRoot.tgz. So this might only be part of the whole problem.

I just installed the patch KSM08_ext_aura_one_etc_04c.zip in my Kobo Mini. I haven't updated to the last Nickel firmware .
With this path I have in the menu of KSM:
- info
- handle update
- start nickel
- start koreader
etc
How I can move the menu entry handle update to another place some lines below, for example after wifi and configure?

You cannot move the entries of the menu, at least without changing the script files. The entry "handle update" is only there, if there is actually an update file waiting in .kobo. It is important to handle update files. With an update file present in .kobo, you cannot start nickel. Therefore, the entry is located in a front position.
Since you see the "handle update" entry, there is a KoboRoot.tgz present on your device. Is it possible that you did not finish installing the KSM08_ext_aura_one_etc_04c patch? If so then
Code:
select: "handle update" > "install update"
If however you have already prepared the device to install FW 4.2.8432 by copying KoboRoot.tgz and the other two items to .kobo, then
Code:
select: "handle update" > "install partial update"
Be aware that you have to copy the whole package (upgrade, KoboRoot.tgz, manifest.md5sum) of the FW 4.2.8432 archive to .kobo, and the FW has to match your device (mark 4). If you copy only KoboRoot.tgz, nickel will not work properly. Even if you are not interested in using nickel, I would recommend that you install the complete FW update.

Thanks.
The only koboroot.tgz file present was this KSM08_ext_aura_one_etc_04c patch. Handle update > Install update has solved the problem =)

I use KSM and KOReader and I haven't used Nickel in months. Everything works well so I have my doubts about updating to the last Nickel update when there have been so many problems with firmware 4.2.8432 and it seems that some of them are still unsolved.

I did not intend to talk you into upgrading the FW. I just meant IF you upgrade, take the complete content of the package.
