I'm not using any hacks or jailbreaks etc. Up until now I had my Duokan working perfectly and I updated my Kindle before without any problems.

Can anyone tell me if going to 3.1 will make my Duokan stop working? Because one guy said that he updated with no problems, while I see other people having problems.
I have a K3-WiFi 3.0.3 with Duokan and nothing else hacked.

You can rename your translation and replace the DK_System/system/Profiles/HelpDocument.txt - and you call it up in Menu-System-settings on the very last page.

( I had much of these things done for a much earlier softwareversion, in several languages, but.. so much has changed, and as I cannot read Chinese, there was a great portion of guesswork. Just consider the link above as how one finally understood the bottom option of the boot-up menu )

Can you try restarting again and using my installer? It shouldn't fail signature checks as it is an amazon file.

did put your install file in the root directory and did press "Restart" and not "Update". After that i get an Update Error 3.

After that i did a restart again and pushed your installer in the root directory. did press "update" and WOW i did get an Update Successfull message.
But when i boot up the kindle or restart it, there is no Duokan Page for pressing q to start duokan. I tried the uninstaller from you too but with no luck. I do get update error message u007.

It seems that the installer was verified and executed, unforunately, it didn't bring the duokan at the restart.

At 14:14 you tried the uninstall, that didn't work.

That succeeded, but it seems that doesn't work with 3.1 fw.

For what I see you have the duokan installed... the only problem is that menu doesn't show up at the system start.

I'm eager myself to install duokan to try its pdf management...

It seems like it's installed from the log. Do you have the other files copied? List what folders you have on the Kindle when you plug it USB mode.

Turn wireless off
Hold power-switch and count to 30, release it

If the Duokan bootup menu does not appear, you could try another install. You may
just overwrite some of the previous files ( note: delete DK_System folder, then copy back this folder from the downloaded version + the update_duokan_0xxx.bin file )

If it still doesn't come up, try some more restarts as above.

Something is changed in 3.1, and bug-reports has been filed. However, despite Error 3, and a few initial hick-ups, Duokan usually comes up.

Not any intelligent comment, but ....

hmm... perhaps one should just deregister the kindle, in order to stop updates ?
Hack the version number, so it appears to have been updated ?
Hmm... perhaps ask Amazon to stop any automatic updates ?



btw. anybody know how to make a complete backup of the device and how to restore it ?
( it would be very nice and important to be able to reinstall an earlier software release )

ok,

did turn off wireless and restarted by holding down power switch for 30 sek. But no luck, boot screen of duokan does not show up.
Did copy the v6613 version + update_duokan_0b00a.bin of that version. tried to update by pressing "Update Kindle" but no luck, got an error u007.
Used the update_duokan_installer_0.5.13.8661-02-18-11_k3gb_install from yifanlu with v6613 by pressing "update Kindle" and the update succeded.
Kindle rebooted automatically and no duokan screen.
Holded down power switch for 20 sec. and did a reboot. No luck no duokan screen.

(Did not turn wireless on during the whole process above)

It did surprise me that it installed, the way you did it, so... Anyway it then runs some programs under Amazon, install runtime scripts, etc. before it finally brings up the initial startup screen. There are also some selection in system settings as to which system will be the default startup. Some timeout is involved as well.

As I did mention, a bug report exist already and I don't think we have to wait very long before this is taken care of.

Anybody with 3.1 fw has a working duokan hack?

I tried with/without hack and the U007 always come up.

I didn't try with yifanlu repackaging, but I suspect it will behave like jlove, successful update but failure to show duokan screen at startup.

These modified files may be used with the the Kindle firmware 3.1 and the Duokan software of 18th of February. ( I don't have the firmware updated, and have unfinished things to do with the older versions - so I cannot help )

I suppose next Duokan release will have more info as how to use these, which may be be over the weekend. I would not recommend anyone to update the firmware, even if this may happen to work.

I just registered to tell you that your bin worked for me and I couldn't previously get the install to work. I just upgraded to 3.1 today and re-did the jailbreak. I disabled the break in order to install this. Thanks!!

@tvor: just to confirm the procedure you followed
1. remove usb root file ENABLE_HACK_UPDATES
2. restart k3
3. copied update_duokan_0b008.bin (or whatever fits to your k3) in root
4. executed an update
5. create again root file ENABLE_HACK_UPDATES to prevent unwanted updates.

and after reboot you have the duokan app?
