I just updated to 3.1 firmware. Then I tried to install Duokan from (http://flip.netzbeben.de/2010/11/duo...ish-gui-today/)
but doesn't work!!

So it seems impossible to install Duokan if the firmare is 3.1.

The message is something like: "the update was not succesful".

Do you think it would be possible for Duokan to support easy modification of the bootup screen? (The one which directs you to either Duokan or Kindle) I'm not a big fan of the current set-up and would like to customize it myself...

Also, I'm a native chinese speaker and I'm happy to assist with any chinese to english translations.

Yes, I just followed the instructions and it worked.
All in Chinese though, thought I had the English version

I haven't installed it yet, because my present installation is working very well for my needs (pdf only), and I don't want to mess up my nice Georgia 2 font. The last time I installed Duokan after NiJuLe's font hack, it messed up my fonts. This time, I installed Duokan first, then used the font hack and copied Georgia 2 fonts to the fonts folder, and everything is great.

I love Duokan. Should I be concerned about my Kindle auto-updating and breaking it? Or does Duokan ensure that auto-updates don't happen?

ok, I have version 0.5.13.8661 Beta0218 installed on K3 and a DXG. See "montalex's" post with features, etc. During install, there may be some install-failure message, while when you restart it, it seem to work. ( NOTE: - I have not upgraded to 3.1 )

They have worked some on decoding - as the frist attachment is a testpage in Swedish, which
did not show much text at all previously. Next attachment is in German, and it still does not
show characters correctly. However, previous testing with UTF-8 did show the same result as ISO-8859-1, but that has changed. The last page is UTF-8.

In other words, if you convert your textfiles to UTF-8, then there is a chance it may work out.

( for example, with Calibre, you can convert to RTF which should give you Unicode, but other programs may also do it ) Wonder if it would work for other languages ?

UPDATE:

RTF was wrong of course. Furthermore, tested a Norwegian text, but dictionary behaves the same ( extended character codes in text is not recognized by the library lookup function.

ADDED info:

The trouble with some of the character codes may have to do with "PRC - Chinese National Standard GB 18030-2005" which extend to much more then 4 times the latin-character set.

Hi everyone,

I did update my new kindle to 3.1 and did also jailbrack and thanks to this forum and its members.
Now Duokan should be the next step, but when i try to install v8661 i get an error U007. I did install devkeys for Mangle (Manga Viewer). Is that the problem?
Did someone get Duokan working on a fresh kindle with 3.1 update?

Notice about Dictionary:

There are errors in the internal character representation, and it does not map correctly for the Stardict-dictionaries. So, the dictionaries will fail for a lot of words.

Update - added note:
A Norwegian sentence..."siden vandret oppover engene på østsiden av Akerselven" - the dictionary will not recogniced the "å" and "ø" in the part that is underlined. In other words, the first word is only the letter "p" and the text has an additional problem which is easy to spot: where words are split during the flow. This particular section happen to fall at the end of a line, like this:
....................................på ø
stsiden............. - which clearly shows the error as to how these character codes fail to be understood.

( the reason why I include these details, is because I may add a link to a previous bug-report, besides - DuoKan members check our pages from time to time )

I don't use Duokan, but I see many people disappointed that it doesn't work on 3.1.

Downloaded Duokan, extracted the installer/uninstaller and repackaged it with my exploit.

This is untested as I do not use Duokan myself, but I'm guessing this is what you do:

1. Uninstall/disable all jailbreaks
2. Download the full package here: http://flip.netzbeben.de/2010/11/duo...ish-gui-today/
3. Follow their directions (copy system files, etc) but instead of copying all the installer "bin" from that package, use the correct "bin" from my package. (No jailbreak is required)

First i uninstalled jailbreak 0.1 and then installed jailbreak 0.3. After that tried to install Duokan 8661 but get the error message u007.

After that i tried to use your installer but again got u007.
Sorry, the installer is not working for me

I'm sorry, I made the same mistake as version 0.3 of jailbreak. You need to either 1) uninstall 3.1 jailbreak, or 2) disable hack updates and restart before running installer.
