Can I ask if, by changing background's color, the text will drop from 300 dpi to 150? Meaning, would it be noticeable?
It would be nice to add a custom color that would change the ambient light set by default, but I guess it will drop the crispness.. (?)
Although I personally prefer the white background, adding a background colour or texture does not affect the black text (at least I don't notice it). The main advantage is that the slightly grainy background is blurred by the texture effect, but you have to like how the final result looks. Personally, I don't like it very much, although the text looks good in both black and colour.

(Obviously, a screenshot does not reproduce the colour of the background and text as it appears on a colour e-reader, but I do not have a camera capable of capturing reality. Let's just say that the impression you get is similar).

There are also many Delphi Classics Masters of Art books e.g. https://www.delphiclassics.com/shop/albrecht-durer-2/. I enjoy looking at watercolors on the pastel colors of the Libra screen, although that is a personal preference seemingly shared by few.
There is also a very nice illustrated edition of the Hobbit and other JRR Tolkien books, with his original watercolors, this looks gorgeous on the Libra. I got these for $1.99 on Tolkein's birthday, as they (Amazon and Kobo) do a sale of all his works on that day each year.

ETA: There are many books incorporating color out there! And a lot of people saying there aren’t! For some reason.
The C.S.Lewis, The Chronicles of Narnia - the one with the COMPLETE lion's head looking right at you on the cover [57.7 MB] - is full of color illustrations. A very nice ebook.

It depends on what the OP prefers to read. Just because an eBook has color images does not mean the OP will want to read it.

Those background images would put me off reading.

Interestingly, one of the statements that has caught my attention the most from some people who prefer a colour e-reader to a monochrome one is that the background graininess takes away the feeling of reading on an electronic device (while for monochrome purists, that background graininess produces an unpleasant sensation). I don't have that feeling with e-readers (I prefer a white background), but I do with tablets and smartphones: I find white unbearable. Background textures were designed to alleviate that feeling of artificial reading (although I find them equally artificial). Personally, I don't like them on colour e-readers, but some people use them for that very reason.

Those backgrounds (to me) would make it feel more like reading on an electronic device then without.

Here is an image i just took from my Kobo showing one of JRR Tolkein’s illustrations in the special edition of The Hobbit. Now, obviously JSWolf will HATE this, but someone else might find it as aesthetically pleasing as I do, and it might help someone who comes across this to make a decision.

Dr. Drib reminded me I also have the complete Chronicles of Narnia, which will also look nice.

That looks very nice!
Thought for sure I'll check alot before buying a new ereader, but thanks.
By looking at the specs of the Kobo Libra colour, it says it has Kaleido 3 technology, but looking at:

(personally I'm not interested about the speed refresh for apps, etc..) the Kaleido 3 in there looks darker, and Gallery 3 e-ink won't drop from 300 dpi to 150 in colour mode.
Kaleido 3 screens on this device keeps a minimal amber light by default, which also I won't like much (but imho).

Onto the Pocketbook Inkpad Colour 3 (which uses too Kaleido 3 screens) the natural light is not that ambery..
Definetively Gallery 3 (imho again):

Quote:
Kaleido 3 can only do 150 PPI and 4096 colours, vs Gallery 3’s 300 PPI and 50,000 colours.
Really sorry, again (again), my intentions wasn't really to divert from the topic.
Also: didn't checked that the only devices within Galley 3 is reMarkable Paper Pro.
