my office 2007 professional came from ebay and has always just worked. I've lost count of how many time I have used it in the last 12 years one reason people cling to office is for the Outlook program but that's an awful insecure email product by modern standards. I moved on to mailbird pro [when you could still buy a cheap lifetime subscription] and never regretted it. my wife still stubbornly clings to outlook 2007 and setting up new hardware for her is a total pain. Stuff like the file of autocomplete entries history, which she 100% needs, is extremely well hidden. Outlook passwords have to be dug out of windows registry or found on scraps of paper... mailbird -> new PC is just one config folder to copy, everything is in there |

The default install, is NOT everything in the package. If you want more or less, you just choose a custom install (or Modify if installed) |

I think Logo programming language is the main thing to 100% untick on a Custom Install of LibreOffice. Never understood why it's even included. It's even a vulnerability.
Doing Custom Installs since 1992. Can hardly remember anything were default made sense. Also SOME big names bundle in stupid stuff now. One reason long ago for Outlook was Exchange. Then Schedules/Calendars. I think Thunderbird does both of those. MS Office: Excel and Word are excellent, or were till 2003. The ribbon is daft. The best two programs MS ever did and on the Mac first. I have Word 2.0a, basically the first update to first Windows version and you can see why every other WP on windows died. Access was always an evil addition, MS SQL and then later free MS SQL engine was better. Maybe Basic MS Office didn't have Access. Powerpoint was bought in and always horrible compared to the alternatives even in 1994. In 1995 they deliberately added extra 32 bit APIs (not needed), especially on Win95 to stop Office 95 working on Win 3.11 or WFWG 3.11 with Win32s. So they had to issue a free upgrade to the real 32 bit OS, NT 3.5 to NT 3.51. Office 95 wasn't even completely 32 bit and Win95 was essentially Win3.11 + VFW + 32 bit drivers + Win32s with only the Direct X new (to port DOS games and millstone round MS neck till XP) and Explorer shell, which is STILL inferior to NT3.x Win3.x File Manager for file copies! They bought in Visio and insisted it was part of Microsoft Office. Not sure if they wrote or bought MapPoint. Those were usually optional extras. They never did much with Visio and is Map Point dead? MS Money was promoted standalone and was pointless compared to either Sage or Excel depending on your needs. Then MS Borged in Sharepoint, then Microsoft Lync / Office Communicator renamed to Skype for Business. Exchange is was / is a mess. Originally only proprietary email protocols. the full install of office 2007 had lots of best-forgotten items: groove, publisher, infopath, onenote...
I do still like picture manager though, it has some useful features not in the current photos app ( as at last year- my (teacher) son's school was still using publisher... i had to dig out an installer for him to use to edit pupil reports at home... ) |

Thanks for all your help regarding moving Calibre to my newly reset pc
Calibre is ok since my pc didn’t reset. It started to, but after an hour it informed me it hadn’t reset! It said corrupt. Microsoft then suggested Track your device and performance health in Windows Security Which I did and it said No Problems Microsoft then suggested Fresh Start which took an hour and removed all my own files of my pc No problem as they are all backed up But then a message came up that there were no changes as it could not do anything. So I am sticking with my old slow pc now. ![]() |

clean install w10 is very simple. you download media creator from microsoft onto a USB stick
then you boot from that stick and choose new install takes 30 mins , tops is the PC has had a version of w10 previously, then it will auto-activate. there is some corruption in the current install ( which you knew) and windows cannot repair it or update over it. so it needs to start over |

That's what I do to new computers, but it can take quite a bit longer than 30 minutes when you include update catch ups. Depends on download speeds, down here that can be slow. BR |

fair point
with an SSD , and with media creator on USB the time from formatting the SSD to having windows running on it was about 20 mins, last time I did it downloading media creator and writing that to USb ( ~4Gb) is maybe another 20 - 30 mins . i am lucky enough to have fast cable internet ( 200Mbs) so I tend to overlook what others' download times may be |

PS what I did consistently observe( last year) is that a new install is much faster than an attempt via windows update.
with older laptops, i was seeing ~6 hours for windows update to try, then fail, to apply a feature update, whereas I could do a full, clean fresh install in under an hour on the same machine. |
