It's not a deal breaker: Calibre is still a great program, but... too bad.
I completely agree with you, jazz bird ... This new icon is just ... ugly

Will to design logo

Basically - Calibre is the best by far library tool out there and as such deserves an equivalent application logo.

If we (the community) were to design one - would it be considered for use?

I definitely prefer the previous, more realistic artwork, in case anyone is taking a poll.
But the desktop icon I have the Windows shell replace easily enough.

I'm more concerned about the splash.
Am I reading correctly that the splash graphic can only be changed (as opposed to disabled) by modifying the source an rebuilding?

The worst thing about the new graphic is it highlights the fact that the words on the spines are written in the wrong direction! Seriously, is no one else driven to distraction by this?! Just me?

Actually, the spine titling direction is different in France, Germany, Eastern Europe and other countries than in Scandinavia, Britain, Ireland, and other Western Europe countries, and former English colonies, including these United States. The top-to-bottom used in the latter countries is the older, traditional style whereas the reverse is a younger style. So it looks like the Calibré developer uses the style he grew up with an is to which he is accustomed. For westerners, particularly English readers, book titles are harder to read with the younger style because when they are stacked, the title is upside down!

I do agree with you on the Kindergarten-style and unprofessional looking art used in the new icon.
