Thanks all for your comments/advice. I see that I have a lot of settings/patches to try that might improve my KePub experience... or not...

kepub page turns are much faster than epub without any patches needed.

Regarding showPageHeader=false in KEPUBs:

I just gave it a shot and it works as advertised. Unfortunately, the line space that was formerly dedicated to displaying the header is now simply blank and as big as ever in my KEPUB.

Is that the nature of this particular config hack? Can we discard the header and recapture the space for text? Some CSS trick?

Yes, that is the nature of that option. From my testing, exactly how much space is still taken depends on the device, but none of them remove it completely.

For those who might try to use this - "showPageHeader" is case sensitive (I should have known that...) and I found that I had to shut the Kobo off and restart for the change to take effect.

After reading all of these comments and suggestions, I have turned off the title in the header and am trying reading KePubs for a while. I know I don't regain all of the header space like in an epub, but so far that is not bothering me.
