I would never, calibre is so much nicer. Just floating ideas, mostly to show how unfeasible they are -- the ONLY decent management will be through a semantic metadata-tagging mechanism, and the ability to quickly select an arbitrary combination of lots of books, e.g. through CTRL+CLICK.

I talked somewhere here about Calibre being like an onion, layer upon layer, with so many options and benefits that it's sometimes hard to discover them all unless you have the time. I rarely have the time to really delve and dig. This week, for the first time I discovered the delete from device function. I had never seen it before and I will use it from now on when the situation permits. Very flexible and extremely helpful. The more I use Calibre the more I love it.

The problem I have with the new search has to do with bibles with "direct verse jump". They require a search index option, which has been removed.

The drop down list to the left of the search box has been removed. There is no way to select the index.

After you do the search, there are "panels" on the results page which show you the results of all the different searches which were previously on the "Scope" menu. Nothing (to the best of my knowledge) has been removed: it's just a different layout.

To jump to a verse in the kindle bible you search the index for the verse number. Not a string of text in the book. For example: to go to John 3:16, you search the index for "jn 3 16". If you search for "jn 3 16" you get Book results (0). There isn't and index "panel" on the results page.

Sorry to be dense, but I don't understand what you mean by "Search the Index". On the older firmware, which I still have on my PW2, the "Search Scope" drop-down gives you these choices:
plus others for "Kindle Store", "Dictionary", and "Wikipedia". On my Voyage, with the new firmware, there's no drop-down. If you do a search from within a book, you're doing the equivalent of a "This Book" search on the old firmware. If you do a search from the home screen, you get a series of panels: "My Items" (which is the same as the old "My Items", and just returns hits on authors and titles), and "Text in Books" (which is the same as the old "All Text", and does a full-text search), plus panes for "Kindle Store", "Dictionary", and "Wikipedia". As I said, I don't believe anything's been removed: it's just differently arranged. Apologies if I've misunderstood you. Last edited by HarryT; 01-12-2015 at 10:41 AM. |

Do you mean the Index Items filter, which shows up in dictionaries? That should replace the This Book filter.

![]() You can do an index search in a dictionary on the Voyage (I've just tried it, to make sure). |

No, they are not formatted as dictionaries. On the touch and the pw1 there is an "index items" in the search scope that doesn't appear on the pw2 anywhere I can find. The drop down menu to select the search scope was removed. Maybe this has always been the case for the pw2. I have a touch and pw1. The pw2 is new to me. I'm running 5.6.1.
I really appreciate all the feedback. Mike |

Might be worth asking Kindle CS about it. Last edited by HarryT; 01-12-2015 at 11:44 AM. |

The "Index Items" on the dropdown on the PW1 does not appear on an ordinary book. It does appear on the bible. I guess I'll pursue Kindle CS or the publisher of the bible, OSNOVA.
Thanks for your help. I don't wish to waste any more of your time. Mike Last edited by Huneycutt; 01-12-2015 at 09:20 PM. |
