@jj2me:
Thanks, I read a few amazon reviews and they also state that quite a couple of PW2s are yellowish. But it depends on what you get, since there are also alot of neutral-white variants out there... Also, reviews indicate, that if you send it in for return, you will most likely get a sample that's been returned already. At some rewievers', defective PW's piled up while returning and returning. They were talking scratched screens, hot/dead pixels, crashes and freezes, uneven light distribution, high battery drain, dust between display layers... So I figured I'd be better off just buying one hoping that it's not defective. Test it for a while to see if it's really not too much of a step down from a Sony as far as usability goes (JB, font hack, calibre collections and my personal use habits while reading different kinds of books), and then turn it to my favorite reading color: very very warm ![]() Of course, if I was happy to get a warm lighted one, I'd just use it. But if not and everything else is ok, changing it's color temperature would be worth a try for me. I'm pretty much a night reader, but neutral-blueish light messes with my wake/sleep rythm, it keeps me awake. I don't want to go back down that route again... UPDATE: I've got the PW2 since yesterday. Out of the box I have mixed feelings about that thing. However, I'm confident that with all things dics and wikipedia which the PW2 does damn right and all the great effort pumped in by guys like NuLeJe, kaznelson, Eschwartz and so many other code wizards and noob helpers to make the Kindle the reader, I will keep it and be happy. 1001thanks to you!!! I'm now testing for proper functionality, then I will JB it and explore all the good things. As for the frontlight hack: Yes, the PW2 is much better than the bluelightwonder PW1. In my sample that comes from the dark yellow/amber screen (a good bit darker than my t2 btw, so much for Carta being hyped as superior to Pearl - it's clearly not). The light itself is neutral white. In a neutral to warm white luminated room, the shadows of the bezel appear totally blue to me. I've got to figure how much I hate that on the long run. I also have some nice CTO film sheets here now. Time will tell if and which to apply. In the meantime I also figured out how to apply or better, what to try. I will let you know about my findings. I will stick to the PW2, it seems a fine piece of hardware. If I do the hardware hack successfully, I will drop a how-to and images here. What's holding me off: during daylight I love the display. At night I would love to have it more orange than I'd want during the day. Maybe I need two PW2's, one warm-toned for night reading and one vanilla for the day. Anyway, I'll keep you posted.
