I like this move from amazon too. I am not into audiobooks, but my son is, so I really like that you don't need to search for the audible version but that it is "winked" to you. Now if they offered this on the european sites... It's not there on the spanish site, need to check the German and French one though.

Re advertising: we live in a world that is made and exists as such because of advertising. You would not be eating what you are eating, driving what you are driving, sending your kids to that college instead of that one, wearing what you are wearing if not for advertising, and I am using the word as a general umbrella notion for all sorts of push actions (ads, PR, lobbying and so on). Our charities would never receive a cent without advertising, and many, many jobs would not exist without advertising. The little devices or services many of us here contribute to produce are sold how exactly, in your humble opinion ? I hate intrusive ads, but am often thankful for either funny ones ("the force" ad for VW for instance, it lights up my day), well made ones, or right-timed ones. From all the companies I know, use, of have worked with or for in the past, amazon is one of the best in terms of intelligent non-intrusive advertising and marketing politic. And, ahem, yeah. I don't know Jack about programming, but I know a lot about advertising. It feeds me. I am the reincarnation of evil on earth. Go on, stone me. |

I've got nothing against advertising per se, but it's the overload of the stuff - the constant solicitation just about everywhere, anywhere, and at every opportunity that we now get that I am absolutely fed up with. I'm afraid I'm a bad consumer

The stuff is wasted on me anyway, because I never remember what brands are being advertised even just a few minutes after seeing an ad. The only exception was a Dunlop "expect the unexpected" ad from some 20 years ago which was completely surreal with music by the Velvet Underground (Venus in furs) - however that didn't make me rush out and buy Dunlops. The old way you had to log into audible then choose for it not use a credit and then go through 2 more check out screens before the purchase was finalized now it's just a simple 1 click! I love that! ![]() This is definitely a great move on Amazon's half and something that was much needed! |
