I always say if you get a Rept who is clueless or doesn't act like they care then wait till Amazon send you the little feedback form in your email. It shows up within an hour after your conversation. Click the No this didn't help me link and fill out the feedback form. After you submit it Amazon will ask you to contact them again because they really want to help you.
Why do this. It helps Amazon know what the repts are doing. I have filled one out and gotten a call from higher up from Amazon saying they were sorry and they did work something out for me. So fill out those forms! Last edited by Blossom; 11-15-2012 at 09:16 PM. |

@mobilewilier: glad I could help! I had my shares of bad PW screens, so I know the frustration of holding a brandnew kindle in your hands and feeling let down.
I agree with you, Blossom and Sparkle, I talked to between abysmal and stellar customer service reps when I was having problems with my PWs these past two months. Through this experience, I have learned that it is worth trying to talk to another person who may be more interested in helping you out, or who may simply have more authority to help you out. |

The screen is MUCH BETTER than my last one and i will keep it. It still has some faint green in the left mid section and some brighter section in the lower right but it is much milder and more uniform than my last one. Want to thank Amazon for great customer service. Even if the product is not perfect, it's the commitment to providing customer satisfaction which has converted me into a loyal customer. Finally I can use ANY font (at any size) without the screen looking like it's bruised. |

PS: I didn't get the non-SO version, as promised by Amazon, but I really don't mind about that too much. Priority was in getting a better PW screen.

Good to hear they sent you a better unit that you can at least live with! Sorry to hear there are still color blotches! Being promised one thing and receiving another happened to me as well a few times during my replacements back and forth - I think it has to do with the phone reps passing the order on to the replacement center, who then may or may not send what they are being asked (in my case, sometimes they didn't).

I just viewed it in a dark room and it's pretty nicely uniform. I am quite sensitive to color and I would say its 95% perfect. So overall v happy.
Strangely the light is far whiter in this PW, showing that quality control is a bit askew! |

It just seems to be the Kindle that has this 'problem' with wide variations in the screens, it's not something you hear about with the Kobo Glo for example. It has it's own issues (bright pixels, light too bright on low setting), but on the whole, the quality of the light seems to be pretty uniform.
So possibly it's the capacitive touch screen of the Kindle that is causing issues that the infra red touch screen on the Glo isn't? Also, there will have been a lot more Kindles sold than Glos (I think?), plus the high expectations set by the launch of the Paperwhite, but even so, clearly Amazon is having more problems with quality control than Kobo. |

I think the OP is right that much of the screen "issues" are in the eye/ mind of the beholder. Amazon is partly to blame because they built this product up to an extreme degree.
I have a PW and I love it. |

The colored blotches on the two Paperwhites I returned were not "pigments of my imagination". They were obvious to other members of my family as well, even more so when compared to the Kobo Glo I got 2 weeks ago.
I do wonder if the Paperwhite issues have more to do with the 2 layers of film that Amazon is spraying on the screen, rather than with the lights. Inconsistent spray patterns, or the first layer not dry before the 2nd is sprayed on, maybe? Last edited by NNolan; 11-19-2012 at 12:41 PM. |

The devices I have returned had real issues as well. My imagination had nothing to do with the green and pink blotches, the holes in the screen, the smudges below the screen and the dust particles creating dead pixel effects. So, no, these are not imaginary issues.
