My previous cell was iPhone4, now I am with Samsung Galaxy Note, 5.3" works much better for me than 3.5". So much easier for eyes, the first phone I can read books without eye pain! I use it rather like a small tablet with rare phone calls. I have small hands, but no problem with 2-handed usage.

What would make me switch is an Iphone with a phone radio that actually works. Every friend I've got with an iPhone has trouble with calls dropping. I get tired of having so much trouble hearing them when they call, whereas I rarely have problems with calls from non-iPhones. Pity because I really like the iOS.

Yep, I don't know if it's ATT or iphone, but here in Sherman it seems all the dropped calls I get are from the iphone users, repeatedly from 3 diff users. If they are in a car, forget it. Don't know if it effects the Verizon or Sprint iphone users though, don't know any. I am loving my 4.3" Evo and 7" View screen sizes, not too big for a phone and not too small for a tablet (with my 57yo eyes). I think you need to be open about the hardware and find what works for you, sometimes the "leader" will try to convince you don't need it because, well... maybe he doesn't sell it.

I felt the same back in 2008 when I switched from feature phone to iPhone. As a phone, it was worse than my old one, but web browsing (reason I bought it) was a much more enjoyable experience on the iPhone than on my old phone with 1.5" screen. I was considering other options (mainly a Nokia N-something, Blackberry or Palm) but the iPhone 16GB cost $499 while the Nokia (unlocked) cost $799 and all the others were $399~449 after subsidy with 2-year contract.

Still, the iPhone gets better signal than my Samsung Androids.

The iPhone had an "error" on the signal strength display, where it would show better reception than it should have.

Even after the correction, there is no standard to determine how many bars to show relative to the dBm reported by the modem, so saying that X phone has better reception than Y phone based on bars is misleading. It should be measured on dBm; if the iPhone shows a higher dBm than your Samsung, then it indeed has better reception.

I don't really care about dBm readings. All I know is in the same room, I get more frequent dropouts/timeouts on the Samsung (Nexus S) on both Wi-Fi and cellular than I do on the iPhone.
