If you know to look for it, and take the time to do so. It'd trip up a lot of people still, because they wouldn't expect it, or take the time to care.

To protest this legislation, Wikipedia is taking their encyclopedia offline for 24 hours starting tonight at midnight (Eastern Standard time). A number of other popular websites are following suit.

O'Reilly books are DRM free, but watermarked, and it is easy to find pirated copies of their books with the watermarks intact. A while back, there was a discussion over this, and people were finding tons of books online still with the watermarks. The people who uploaded them didn't bother to remove them. |

Hopefully the protest will bring a little more attention to the matter. |

SOPA not dead, merely postponed
Here is a press release by the US House of Representatives concerning SOPA:
Stop Online Piracy Act Markup to Resume in February Washington, D.C. - House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) today said that he expects the Committee to continue its markup of the Stop Online Piracy Act in February. Chairman Smith: "To enact legislation that protects consumers, businesses and jobs from foreign thieves who steal America's intellectual property, we will continue to bring together industry representatives and Members to find ways to combat online piracy. "Due to the Republican and Democratic retreats taking place over the next two weeks, markup of the Stop Online Piracy Act is expected to resume in February. "I am committed to continuing to work with my colleagues in the House and Senate to send a bipartisan bill to the White House that saves American jobs and protects intellectual property." I had a friend in college tell me when he was a bored teenager in a small town, he'd steal the magazine postcard inserts from the local store's magazine rack and sign up his "enemies" for magazine subscriptions. I actually had that done to me (I suspect by neighbors I'd called the cops on) in the last few years. Imagine today's digitally savvy teens...I could imagine them uploading a few hundred books with their "hated neighbor's" name in them! |

Obama will veto SOPA if it makes it that far.
