Well there was definitely an issue with the Xoom and the SD Card. It's possible that will change with Ice Creme Sandwich. Also there didn't seem to be issues with SD Cards in phones. It's all somewhat vague to me...

I just know that on the Xoom, the internal memory is accessed/named/treated (at the linux level) as an SD-Card under /mnt/sdcard and the external/plug-in SD card is under the /mnt/external1/

Leave us monkey's alone.
Going back to the price though. Do you really think it costs that much now-a-days to manufacturer an SD card reader into a device. I don't think the addt'l cost of a NC or NC 2 is because of an SD card reader. I just find it hard to believe. Then again, i'm not a manufacturer, so I have no idea. Kenny, did they ever fix, or allow, the issue with the SD card reader in the Xoom? Is it functional now? |

The Xoom was released with two major discrepancies - a promise of upgrade to 4G and a non-working SD-Card slot. They took forever to "fix" the card slot, releasing in Europe before in U.S.A. and are right now doing the (free) upgrades to 4G which I'm likely to pass on as I simply don't use 3G that much but primarily used as a wi-fi device. I can't say I'm happy with the implementation of the SD-Card and memory management as it does not connect as a DRIVE but as a device which makes it difficult to do certain things. (like sync/compare directories). In addition the SD-Card must be "Mounted" and "UnMounted" in order to see/use new content. It's pretty much a pita! (but yes it does work) |

As far as prices, don't forget that Apple sold their original iPods at the typically high Apple price. So why did they succeed in sales and eventually take over the MP3 player market? Logic at the time suggested that would be too high and consumers would turn up their noses at iPods. However, Apple provided a turnkey solution by making it super simple and mindless to get music on your iPod for a great price because Apple had already put the iTunes store in place. Likewise Amazon has its stores for multi-media and eBooks well established and in place. Couple that with a $200 KFire and I really don't see the NC2 as able to compete with that complete Amazon system. B&N simply does not have the infrastructure in place to provide those multi-media services, nor do they have a good track record of turning out cutting edge firmware.
