But it says:

Conversely, Dr. Brennan writes successful mystery novels based around a fictional (in the Bones universe) forensic anthropologist named Kathy Reichs.
Sooo Kathy writes about Brennan and Brennan writes about Kathy!!

Nah! Nyssa got it right. To be fair I don't think they mention the fact that Bones is an author or that she writes about a 'Kathy Reichs' a lot.

the character in the books is not kathy reichs, it's temperence brennan, just like the tv show

Quote:
from wikipedia:

Temperance Daesee Brennan is a fictional character created by author Kathy Reichs, and is the hero of her crime novel series (which are usually referred to as the Temperance Brennan novels). She was introduced in Reichs' first novel, Déjà Dead, which was published in 1997. Like her creator, Brennan is a forensic anthropologist, who divides her time between work in North Carolina, and working in Montreal for the Laboratoire des Sciences Judiciaires et de Médecine Légale for the province of Quebec. In a number of novels it is indicated that Brennan's background lies in archaeology, rather than medicine, and throughout the novels she stresses the importance of correct crime scene processes.

You're missing a step. In the TV show Bones, the character Temperance Brennan is also a published author, and her character is Kathy Reichs.

I knew that she published two books during the show (in one episdoe Booth was uncomfortable becuase of the amount of money she made from it), but what I did not know was that she had her character Kathy.

So once again - The real author Kathy Reichs writes about her character Temperance Brennen, and in the TV show the fictitious Temperance Brennan writes about "Kathy Reichs".

Both Maisie Dobbs and Mary Russell I'd highly agree with. I've found Kate Martinelli less successful.

Philip Pullman's Sally Lockhart books. Dark at times, but I really liked them.

I read one of the Kate Martinelli books and enjoyed it very much. Highly recommended.

I forget the title. It was about the murder of a Sherlock Holmes collector.

That rings a bell, yes. I thought it was very good. I actually listened to it as an audiobook, from my local library.

I read the first few Maisie Dobbs books, really wanting to like them, but I just don't. I think it's the character of Maisie--something about her just seems too remote.

How about Mistress of the art of Death by Ariana Franklin.

The King of Med-evil England sends a request to Italy for someone to help solve a mystery of someone killing Jewish children. This is causing the Jewish community to withdraw (and withdraw it's tax's) into local keeps. The Italian monarch winds up sending a promising young student who specializes in the cause of death. But the student is a woman. Interesting historical study as well as good characters.
