It is too heavy. It does cause me eye strain (but I get eye strain even reading on paper). The display is too dim in bright light. I do love my iPad 2. The battery doesn't last long enough.

But the biggest weakness is the crazy way Apple links files to apps, doesn't allow a file manager so you can find a file and use it with other apps, & in general restricts the users use of the device not allowing general open use of the outstanding hardware. Just my opinion.

BTW I usually read on my iPad 2 all day, or at least until it tells me the battery is low. The I switch to my NookColor.

After almost two years, I still enjoy my iPad1 thoroughly. It would be great, however, if its weight can be halved (or more). I also would like to be able to dim the backlight even more for nighttime use. And I would not say 'no' to a retina display...

File manager: none!

However, iPad is a tablet not a dedicated ereader. At least, that's how I consider it myself. If you keep your expectations clear on that, you will be happy, because is a great tablet.

I browser Internet, read full color Magazines and some PDFs or Kindle books, but not for long period of time. When traveling or coffee shops, even at B&N, I use my Kindle 3G instead.

I think there is nothing better to read books that an eink display/device. It is better for your eyes.
