I'm sure I went through the series and found there was one missing. Hang on...

Hmmm. Perhaps I was mistaken. I can't find it now. Good news, in that case!

Fortunately, I was wrong. The full list, and the omnibuses which contain them, is:

Ethan of Athos (1986) - Miles, Mystery and Mayhem
The Warrior's Apprentice (1986) - Young Miles
Falling Free (1988) - Miles, Mutants and Microbes
The Borders of Infinity (1989) - Miles Errant
Brothers in Arms (1989) - Miles Errant
The Vor Game (1990) - Young Miles
Mirror Dance (1994) - Miles Errant
Cetaganda (1995) - Miles, Mystery and Mayhem
Memory (1996)
Komarr (1998) - Miles in Love
A Civil Campaign (1999) - Miles in Love
Diplomatic Immunity (2002) - Miles, Mutants and Microbes
Winterfair Gifts (2008) - Miles in Love
Cryoburn (2010)

The two books which aren't in any omnibus - "Memory" and "Cryoburn", are both available as standalone novels from Baen.

Unfortunately the books are rather "jumbled up" in the omnibus editions. I don't really know what would be the best reading order. Perhaps:

Young Miles
Miles Errant
Miles, Mystery and Mayhem
Memory
Miles in Love
Miles, Mutants and Microbes
Cryoburn

There's also the "Cordelia's Honor" omnibus, which I'd read immediately after "Young Miles".

Any other suggestions?

Most Bujold fans seem to basically agree on the internal chronology. That's how I've been working my way through the series.

Memory is included in the August 2007 WebScription:
http://www.webscription.net/p-618-w2...scription.aspx .

Every book is a winner. The first four are on one or another Baen Cd.

I think they all on the Cryoburn CD at The Fifth Imperium.

A reminder that all these are available on the free Cryoburn CD. That being said, authors and publishers make their money from selling, not giving away, books. I'm all in favour of using the Baen CDs to sample an author's work. But then I buy if I find I want to read more than the first.

at least you stopped before the charming last 1/3 of the novel where the "hero" beats the hell out of and borderline rapes a russian teen then throws cash at her to cover the damages.
I only recently read this blog entry from 2008:

http://hradzka.livejournal.com/194753.html

It's a highly entertaining (and somewhat disturbing) analysis of Ghost, it starts like this:

Quote:
Lately, some folks on my f-list have been looking at Lord King Bad profic. [info]brown_betty gave us LEOPARD LORD, and [info]cereta reviewed THE SHEIK, and [info]burger_eater pointed me to Smart Bitches, Trashy Books's take on Shayla Black's DECADENT. These books, it should be admitted, are deeply awful, and as portrayals of their authors' ids, they're more than a little alarming. You don't want to look, but you can't look away. The awfulness becomes sublime.

So why am I commenting about this? Well, because I feel a little like Richard Dreyfuss in JAWS, during the scar scene: "I got that beat. I got that beat."

Permit me to introduce John Ringo.

A small excerpt from a blog Ringo did years ago:

Quote:
Due to Ghost locking me up, I had no "turn-in" checks for months. And I wasn't contracting for anything. Fortunately, I'd turned in three books at the beginning. But by summer I was financially getting a bit strapped.

Finally, I gave up and wrote it, firmly intending to never publish it. I thought it was as bad as any review on the site. (I've changed my mind, but that was after rereading it.)

However, when I was first writing on it I was complaining about it on Baen's Bar. People there wanted to see what my "c**p" writing looked like. I posted the first three thousand words and the response was...enthusiastic.

Those are the first two. The rest of the series is apparently on the site, but they've been bundling them (and reprinting them)
His books are good. I have 4 two book novels in paperback in the series.

1. The Road to the Rim/The Hard Way Up
2. The Inheritors/Gateway to Never
3. The Dark Dimension/The Rim Gods
4. Into the alternate universe/Contraband from Otherspace

A former neighbor gave them to me along with some other science fiction paperbacks when I was a young teenager of 15-16. I've always liked them.

I have already bought all her books so am very excited to find out about these. Actually, her books are the one series where I was willing to buy the hardcover book because I just couldn't wait for the next book to come out!

Wow... does anyone know why that one got left out? It's one of the best books in the series, and vitally important to understanding later events.

Worked for me. I'd not realized I was missing that one, so just went and bought it. Though like rxmom03 I already had all these in hardback. But I bought it with Micropay $$ so it doesn't count. :P
