Actually, I bought my 2nd K2i from Amazon. So it does have a full warranty. It is reconditioned, which means new battery and face (only the internals are original -- keyboard, screen, etc. new). I think I paid $119. My first K2i cost $259.

But bhartman is right -- no updates. There is a way to install K3 firmware on a K2, but I haven't messed with it yet. Honestly, I'm quite happy with my K2i, and I am not at all tempted my the more fragile K3. But, to each his own.

Be aware that Sprint's only on the K2 US (ie: the early model, s/n's start with B002). The later built K2 international (s/n's start with B003) uses AT&T just like the K3.

The difference in the screen is pretty noticeable. I bought the K3 the day it was announced and posted some shots of both my white K2i and black K3 that I did on my scanner the day I got it. I never had any issues with the K2 and loved it, but I love my K3 even more.

You're right. I forgot about Amazon refurbs. Still, for the price of the refurbed K2 you got, you can buy a KSO 3 now. Unless the page key size or the lack of numbers on the keyboard are an issue, I think that's the better deal.

I bought an unlighted case for my K3 Wifi, but when it was caseless, I really didn't feel like it was all that fragile. My K1, by comparison, was built like a brick sh*thouse, but it was also a lot thicker and larger. I really don't see anything bad happening to your K3 that wouldn't happen to a K2 under similar circumstances. The screen (which, if I understand correctly, is the biggest failure point) is the same size. And the thickness is about the same, so there wouldn't be a lot more danger there.

If Kindle does come out with a touchscreen/tablet/K4 this year like everyone is expecting, K3 will probably drop in price.

I'm expecting both a touch screen Kindle 4 and an Android tablet.

The tablet is pretty much a no brainer with Amazon's move into the cloud and the opening of its own appstore. What's interesting in the way of available book readers in the appstore is that the Nook app is missing. Kobo is there and so is Aldiko, but not Nook. This leads me to speculate that Amazon's tablet will be similar to the Nook Color (with improved specs) and priced around $229 or a bit lower. It will also be locked into Amazon's appstore, since the Nook app is available in the Android Market.

This is a tablet I'd definitely get and wouldn't even bother rooting. Amazon's appstore is large enough for my needs. The only reason I rooted my Nook Color was to gain access to an appstore.
