I like the dark grey concrete background with off white lettering in Stanza. The concrete background is patterned so not just a dark color which I think is easier on my "old" eyes.

That's interesting - blue screen to cause falling asleep more difficult, I didn't know that. Anyway I cannot read AT ALL on black (dark) background with white letters. I find it very tiring and I cannot focus. And to me the combination ipad/ereader is the best, once I take my ereader I take "the book" to just read, it's a different feeling. Ipad is a toy.

Maybe I need to give it a little more time to get used to it since I can read on my computer monitor all day.
I guess it is a good thing that I also have a Kindle 3 sitting at home that I can revert back to should I need to...

Anyone else experience something similar?
I honestly don't use the iPad for long reading sessions, prefer the Kindle 3 or Kindle DXG. But for Magazines and PDFs, has no comparison. GoodReader on iPad is just great and fast for PDF documents.

After trying for 2 weeks I think the best is what you mentioned... iPad for short reading and Kindle 3 for the longer stretches...

I love reading on my IPad. Can read for 3 - 4 hrs (when I get the chance) without any problems. Also can read for long periods on my IPhone. Can't manage the same amount of time on my pc.
Use my IPad for books, magazines and newspapers. Even prefer it for reading web pages.

I use Stanza for one reason... a swipe of the finger up and down to change brightness. While reading I will swipe just to "change" the brightness a bit. I find that this change helps lengthly reads. (Yes, I know, the other apps can change brightness but not with a flick while reading!)

(another note.. as stated above... try some different font colors... My eyes like a dark brown better than black)
