Seriously, though, has anybody else read "Blindness?" There are plenty of those apocolyptic (sp?) novels out there, but that one really creeped me out. It's frightening to think of how quickly we would fall into that dog-eat-dog mentality.

now taking resumes for the end of the world

seriously though, I grew up reading those types of books. on top of that, my Dad who was a reasonable person in every other way was convinced that the "soviets" were going to invade at any time. he had buried caches in the mountains around Boulder for about 20 years. I used to go with him and check them, re-stock and so on.

I firmly believe that even if we witness the end of our current society, like any good Phoenix, we can be reborn

I have both modern and old rifles and enough black powder to keep me going for quite some time. I have a pond and three streams on the property, deer graze here all the time. I am less than two miles from the ocean and can get both shellfish and salmon from the shoreline. there are wild berries everywhere during the right time of year. this next summer I will be adding chickens and bees to the farm.

right before I bought this place I wired the emergency response center for FEMA. I paid a LOT of attention to the various maps. I was able to see where all of the predicted tsunamis, and lahars would be. this is a good place to be in
Your plans are wonderful.

Unless there is a nuclear attack. In which case the bee's, water, deer, fish and chickens are moot........

Scenario sounds like "The road", depressing movie, fast forward most of the film. Haven't read the book.

No. No.

From Texas you head West to the Pacific ocean then hang a right and follow the coast until you get there. KK would you put a big sign on the coast at the closest point to your place. That will help VR and shortncuddly too.

I have the complete set (in paperback) of The Survivalist.

Ahhh. The good old days, when all we had to worry about were the commies.

I may just wait at the entrance to the road that leads to KK's place. As you guys are feeling all happy that you've found her, you'll start to relaxe. BAM. I',ve got more supplies.

After my post apocalyptic trip across the country with a wife, two kids, a dog, the two cats (I'm sure I'll have to bring them), and probably the iguana, the pickings will be pretty slim.

But your welcome to the iguana....

I feel like I've already lived through this once in my lifetime. I worked literally 1/2 mile from the pentagon during 9/11. Metro was shut down, had to walk from 12th and Constitution all the way to Rhode Island Ave (about a 4 hour walk) to get my car from the metro station (did I mention i had on heels b/c I forgot my flip flops in my desk drawer trying to get the hell outta there?).

I live in the 'burbs...my little privacy fence won't be much but it's SOMETHING. Not to mention that I have an American Bulldog that looks mean as hell (don't tell anyone but he's a big ole softy). I'd be ok on food for a while, but there's a grocery store about 3 blocks away that I can "raid" (just me, my guns, and the dog a la I Am Legend style.) I think I'll be ok. I tend to shoot first ask questions later anyway.
