Seriously, some of my favourite books have had bad reviews from people who obviously can't cope with anything above a ninth grade level.

It's not that I disagree. But there is the rule of large numbers. Look, it's in my best interest for the book to be good. I did buy it based on my enjoyment of her first book. But for the home page of the book to have that many negative reviews, that's got to say something.

No Questions Asked is the twelfth and most recent (2020) in the Lexi Carmichael series by Julie Moffett. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Questions-Ask...dp/B07XTPQQCZ/

One last fling (with danger) before the ring?

Nothing’s that simple when you’re a geek girl. Julie Moffett’s beloved Lexi Carmichael mystery series returns with No Questions Asked.

Lexi Carmichael: saving scientists one snake at a time.

Weddings aren’t my thing—never have been. But eloping would break my mother’s heart, especially since the president of the United States put in a good word for me with his daughter’s wedding planner. I’m going to have the wedding of the year…whether I like it or not.

Before we can say I do, Slash and I are flying off to the Brazilian rain forest. Our mission: stop hackers from stealing a vaccine that could save millions of lives. I thought it’d be easy, but from the moment we step off the plane, I’m up to my neck in trouble.

After an attack by drug-runners, being kidnapped and discovering that the bad guy is even worse than we’d imagined, I’m pretty sure someone in our group is working for the enemy. And they’re succeeding. I’ll have to use all my geek skills to stop the bad guys if I’m going to make it home in time to tie that knot.

Same author of the Cadfael series. I apologize to Kobo readers - I was late putting this up and the deal is no longer at Kobo (still live at B&N).

Quote:
The Felse Investigations Volume One: Fallen into the Pit, Death and the Joyful Woman, and Flight of a Witch by Ellis Peters $3.99 Amazon and B&N

In the English village of Comerford, just on the border of Wales, it’s Det. Sgt. George Felse’s duty to keep the peace—and keep his fourteen-year-old son, Dominic, out of harm’s way . . .

Fallen into the Pit: The shadow of World War II still looms over the village of Comerford. Dominic finds the body of a German ex-prisoner of war and develops a dangerous interest in solving the case.

Death and the Joyful Woman: Dominic falls in love with an heiress who stands accused of bludgeoning a millionaire beer baron to death with a magnum of champagne.

Flight of a Witch: Felse handles a strange case involving the disappearance of a local beauty, a fatal robbery, and witchcraft.

Last Summer by Evan Hunter (aka Ed McBain, aka Salvatore Albert Lombino) is $1.99 at Amazon US.

Quote:
Three teenagers turn an idyllic summer vacation into a violent nightmare in this “compelling and unforgettable” novel by the bestselling author of The Blackboard Jungle (Harper’s).

Bored, restless, privileged teenagers Sandy, David, and Peter meet while vacationing with their families on remote Greensward Island. The two boys, both sixteen, are immediately entranced by Sandy’s beauty and frank sexuality.

Over the course of the summer, the trio creates an illicit teenage paradise far removed from adult supervision. Stolen beers and lustful teasing lead to more nefarious games, however, when Rhoda appears. Shy, quiet, and unsophisticated, the fifteen-year-old desperately wants to fit in with her more glamorous peers. Her awkwardness brings out a vicious cruel streak in Sandy, who has David and Peter so tightly wrapped around her finger they’ll do whatever she wants—even if it means destroying an innocent life.

A fearless, unflinching portrait of youth gone wild, Last Summer was the basis for an Academy Award–nominated film starring Barbara Hershey, Bruce Davison, Richard Thomas, and Catherine Burns. Originally published in 1968 and heralded by Cosmopolitan as “the most chilling novel of this—or any—autumn,” Last Summer transforms a coming-of-age story into a dark and twisted fable and confirms Evan Hunter’s reputation as a master of suspense.

The Bomb Ship is the fourth in the Richard Mariner series by Peter Tonkin. It is free right now at Kindle US and UK. It was previously on sale as part of the Ship to Shore omnibus of Richard Mariner titles, but WTH, it's free, so you can get an individual copy now if you want it...

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BR26BDY
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07BR26BDY

Spoiler:
Quote:
Richard Mariner of the Heritage Mariner shipping company has commissioned two identical ships designed to transport nuclear waste safely across the Atlantic.

Within months of surviving a terrorist attack at their launch, the sister ships are in service, but suspiciously bad luck and foul weather trap the Atropos behind a huge ice barrier.

Crippled and helpless, she is in imminent danger of being crushed.

Clotho, the only ship close enough to help, plunges into the stormy Labrador Sea, her crew totally unaware that the bomb has done more damage than anyone suspects.

And that was but the opening move in a campaign of violence by a death-defying group of environmental terrorists who are already aboard, disguised as members of the crew and secretly stowed away.

One lethal device has already been planted and more have been smuggled deep into the bowels of the great ship ...

It is up to Richard and Robin Mariner to save themselves, their crew and their company.

But in deep waters, no one is safe ...

For a while, Archer Mayor seemed to be cycling through putting titles in his Joe Gunther police procedural series on sale pretty regularly. But in the last couple of years, not so much...

Now he's got a couple of titles in the series on US Kindle Countdown for $0.99 each for about 7 more hours. So move fast if you want them.

There are several collections of the Lord Peter Wimsey series by Dorothy Sayers on Amazon. In this specific one, most of the books are either $.99 or $2.99 and most have Whispersync audiobook deals where available. Therefore, I'm not linking to a specific book but the collection page for Amazon.

Amazon: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B074CC4H..._ks_series_rwt

At Kobo and B&N, only Strong Poison is $.99. Some other books are matched for $2.99, but not all.
Kobo: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/strong-poison-3

Edited to add: Busman's Holiday has both ebook and audiobook, but they are not Whispersync linked.
