True, but I was responding to your posting about where you could find the books for free.

Thank you sir. I had most of them, but hadn't checked the site in a couple of years. I was able to get Behemoth (Trilogy books #3 & #4 <G>), and about 8 other short stories or articles that I had either missed previously or were added later.

X-link to the Kobo thread for an sfnal Kobo Canada sale (some prices may be matched elsewhere or available in the US, especially from the larger publishers):

Until May 8th for $3.99 CAD or less, “Explore titles that are out of this world” with sf, fantasy, and horror titles, out of which a good chunk are both indie and romantic, but have some solid sfnal frontlist from Ursula K. Le Guin, Ken Liu, and Stephen Baxter, anthologies edited by Jonathan Maberry (Stoker Award-winner), translated works by Johanna Sinisalo (Tiptree Award), and backlist works from authors including John Zakour (previously DAW).

ETA: turns out there's also a corresponding Kobo US sale for the same prices in USD and a slightly different featured selection, until May 6th.

ON SALE: The Wall of Storms (The Dandelion Dynasty Book 2) by Ken Liu

The Wall of Storms (The Dandelion Dynasty Book 2) by Ken Liu is currently on sale for $1.99 at Amazon US. 880 pages

Quote:
In the much-anticipated sequel to the “magnificent fantasy epic” (NPR) Grace of Kings, Emperor Kuni Garu is faced with the invasion of an invincible army in his kingdom and must quickly find a way to defeat the intruders.

Kuni Garu, now known as Emperor Ragin, runs the archipelago kingdom of Dara, but struggles to maintain progress while serving the demands of the people and his vision. Then an unexpected invading force from the Lyucu empire in the far distant west comes to the shores of Dara—and chaos results.

But Emperor Kuni cannot go and lead his kingdom against the threat himself with his recently healed empire fraying at the seams, so he sends the only people he trusts to be Dara’s savvy and cunning hopes against the invincible invaders: his children, now grown and ready to make their mark on history.

Written In Red by Anne Bishop (A Novel of the Others #1) is currently $2.99 in the US

I enjoyed the world building and characters in this alternative earth fantasy novel

https://www.amazon.com/Written-Red-O.../dp/B008RD34VO
https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/written-in-red-1

Synopsis copied from amazon
No one creates realms like New York Times bestselling author Anne Bishop. Now in a thrilling new fantasy series, enter a world inhabited by the Others, unearthly entities—vampires and shape-shifters among them—who rule the Earth and whose prey are humans.

As a cassandra sangue, or blood prophet, Meg Corbyn can see the future when her skin is cut—a gift that feels more like a curse. Meg’s Controller keeps her enslaved so he can have full access to her visions. But when she escapes, the only safe place Meg can hide is at the Lakeside Courtyard—a business district operated by the Others.

Shape-shifter Simon Wolfgard is reluctant to hire the stranger who inquires about the Human Liaison job. First, he senses she’s keeping a secret, and second, she doesn’t smell like human prey. Yet a stronger instinct propels him to give Meg the job. And when he learns the truth about Meg and that she’s wanted by the government, he’ll have to decide if she’s worth the fight between humans and the Others that will surely follow.

Sing the Four Quarters by Tanya Huff - FREE
Amazon US | B&N | Google | Amazon UK | Amazon CA

Price check link for Kobo where it is currently still $7.99 | Kobo
Quote:
The Bards of Shkoder hold the country together. They, and the elemental spirits they Sing – earth, air, fire, and water - bring the news of the sea to the mountains, news of the mountains to the plains. They give their people, from peasant to king, a song in common.

Annice is a rare talent, able to Sing all four quarters, but her brother, the newly enthroned King Theron, sees her request to study at the Bardic Hall as a betrayal. To his surprise, Annice accepts his conditions, renouncing her royal blood and swearing to remain childless so as not to jeopardize the line of succession. She walks away from political responsibilities, royal privilege and her family.

Ten years later, Annice has become the Princess Bard and her real life is about to become the exact opposite of the overwrought ballad her fellow students at the Bardic Hall wrote about her. Now, she's on the run from the Royal Guards with the Duc of Ohrid, the father of her unborn child, both of them guilty of treason – one of them unjustly accused. To save the Duc's life, they'll have to cross the country, manage to keep from strangling each other, and defeat an enemy too damaged for even a Bard's song to reach.

X-link to the DRM-free thread for a BVC sale and some bundles:

Book View Café's 99 cent monthly specials include two backlist novels by Doranna Durgin and Deborah J. Ross (out from Tor and DAW, respectively), and a collection of Nancy Jane Moore's previously-published short stories. Plus there are original works by BVC authors, including a steampunk shared world anthology.

StoryBundle has a new indie author bundle with a witch theme and a freebie for newsletter subscribers, and their SFWA Science Fiction bundle expires in the next few days, as does Humble Bundle's Save the Unicorns bundle curated by Peter S. Beagle.

The Wish Granter by C. J. Redwine - $1.99

An epic, romantic, and action-packed fantasy inspired by the tale of Rumpelstiltskin, about a bastard princess who must take on an evil fae to save her brother’s soul, from C. J. Redwine, the New York Times bestselling author of The Shadow Queen. Perfect for fans of Graceling and the Lunar Chronicles.

The world has turned upside down for Thad and Ari Glavan, the bastard twins of Súndraille’s king. Their mother was murdered. The royal family died mysteriously. And now Thad sits on the throne of a kingdom whose streets are suddenly overrun with violence he can’t stop.

Growing up ignored by the nobility, Ari never wanted to be a proper princess. And when Thad suddenly starts training Ari to take his place, she realizes that her brother’s ascension to the throne wasn’t fate. It was the work of a Wish Granter named Alistair Teague who tricked Thad into wishing away both the safety of his people and his soul in exchange for the crown.

So Ari recruits the help of Thad’s enigmatic new weapons master, Sebastian Vaughn, to teach her how to fight Teague. With secret ties to Teague’s criminal empire, Sebastian might just hold the key to discovering Alistair’s weaknesses, saving Ari’s brother—and herself.

But Teague is ruthless and more than ready to destroy anyone who dares stand in his way—and now he has his sights set on the princess. And if Ari can’t outwit him, she’ll lose Sebastian, her brother…and her soul.

Thanks, liked Ken Liu's books a lot, got this one at the library, glad to pick it up for $2. Asian-inspired. Think Romance of the Three Kingdoms inspired GRR Martin mixed with some traditional fantasy structure (meddling gods and such).

Thanks, never read Lawhead, both look like a good try for $1/book.

Baen Free Books

I went to Baen to get the 2016 Free Stories (which I hadn't downloaded yet) when I noticed A State of Disobedience by Tom Kratman.

I don't have that book, free or not, in my library, and I don't remember it being mentioned, so maybe at least 1 other would like to download it.

Is there some easy way to check a couple of times a year which books have been added to Baen Free Library instead of just relying on my memory?

This is rather odd because this ebook isn't a freebie on Amazon

https://www.ereaderiq.com/dp/B00AP9C...-disobedience/

We started tracking this book on February 3, 2013.
This book was $6.99 when we started tracking it.
The current price of this book is $5.38 last checked 5 hours ago.
The lowest price to date was $5.38 last reached on January 11, 2017.
==

Usually if a Baen free library book is in the Kindle store then Amazon would require it to be free there

https://www.amazon.com/s/?url=search...ublisher=Baen*

In the case of Grand Central Arena by Ryk E. Spoor, also a new entrant, there was a bounce and things had to wait for a Second Edition (with additional material).

As far as I know your best bet for finding new Free Library books is to go to the Free Library and sort by latest updates descending ( http://www.baen.com/catalog/category...=latest_update )
