Without seeing the coding of the book it's hard to say but mobi will work if you can get it to convert. Old Mobi will the new mobi is the same as AZW3 format.

I was doing so good this year. Plan was to not buy books, or at least very few, and read all the stuff I bought in 2013-2008 first. But noooo, I come here and keep adding stuff to wishlists, to maybe lists and of course I buy.

Oh, and thanks Blossom, thanks a lot for getting me hooked on "Haven".

I have been plowing through the seasons the last week. I started the last season (4). I thought I would just watch one or two episodes to see what the fuss was. 3 seasons later, here I am. Reading has suffered. Now why can't buying the books suffer.

I have added a lot of stuff to wishlists just from the last few pages here.

This thread should come with a warning.

It's such a good show they better bring it back for season 5! *pouts*
I can truly say I am not a TV watcher but It was like crack I had to watch them all and I thought it about it night and day for a week after I finished it. I can't remember the last show that got me like that.

How come no author has written anything like this? Small town paranormal mystery series. It would be awesome!

It would be nice to have the warning in the thread title, but alas, I think it's long enough as it is!

When looking for books by my current obsession Sarah MacLean on OD I came across a couple of books by Stella MacLean and am currently reading Baby in Her Arms. It's about a widow who comes across letters from her deceased hubby who writes a poignant picture of the years of their relationship, helping her to move on, and form a relationship with the next door neighbor. Trouble is, it's in first person, which I'm not a big fan of, and also, I don't remember reading any other first person Harlequins (it's a SuperRomance).

Yeah, that would make a great book series. I am not big on just plain small town romances, but if it had paranormal like that in it, I'd be all over it. Especially with its weird quirkiness.
And not just the typical vampires, witches and weres. I think that is why I like this so much. It really is like crack. I watch only specific shows. Most of whats out there doesn't interest me. I do like Sleepy Hollow right now and Grimm and I liked Fringe. Many other shows I liked were cancelled way too soon.

I did read that so far there is not decision on a 5th season. I still have about 9 episodes to go. Wouldn't be the first series though were I was left hanging at the end.
I never even heard about this series and I don't usually watch the stuff from the sy fy channel. Its usually not very good. This one though is fantastic. The writing, the characters, the dry wit, especially in the earlier seasons.

I do like the "In Death" series and it fills kind of that void for me. Not the paranormal, but since is kind of sci fi-ish, which I also like. But not too removed from our reality.

I really would like more paranormal romancey stuff that is not vampires, witches and weres. Hard to find though.

I remember a romance series that is similar to this but it was in a city not a small town I may have to add this to my wishlist or check the library Thanks.

The unique thing about Haven is

1. It's a small town where everything takes place
2. There is always a explanation of why something is happening. There are no vampires, weres or other mythological creatures. I can't say more without giving away spoilers but that was sheer genius.
3. These special happenings are always a negative thing nothing positive about them.
4. Everything and everyone is connected in someway to the town and that symbol. Will we ever know why? *sigh*

Blossom, karma and my deep thanks to you for helping in PM's. Now I have a jumping off point if it happens again too.

BTW, talking about TV series, I just went through all 6 seasons of Sons of Anarchy and I just LOVED it. Brilliant [though violent] writing, storyline, everything. I describe it as Sopranos/Justified but with bikers, and even way better storyline.
And to keep this romance book related, Charlie Hunnam was supposed to be Christian Gray from FSOG. Anyways, meet Jax from SOA, just a little something to brighten your day!

Very hard to find indeed. Seems like most of the non-vamp/witch/were stuff tends to be more urban fantasy than strictly paranormal romance. I'll have to think about that; not sure if I've seen much of anything that excludes all three of those kind of "species".

One of the more unusual of the paranormal/UFs I've read lately--

Darynda Jones' Charley Davidson series. (Fantastic Fiction link) This one has ghosts, angels, demons, & the Grim Reaper, but the love interest plays out over multiple books, so not true paranormal romance. And let's just say bad boys don't get any badder than Reyes...his story makes some of the Black Dagger Brotherhood look like Boy Scouts.

It's not going to be everyone's cup of tea (dark with twisted humor; read reviews & check out samples), but it's definitely different from many I've read in the last few years. I'm on the fourth book, and I've enjoyed it so far.

That was a DNF for me.

I wouldn't care if the series was Urban Fantasy or had any romance in it. I would love to find something like Haven to read. the small town with big dark secrets and a woman with am mysterious past just catches my attention.

Fighting for Irish (Fighting for Love #3) by Gina Maxwell

Quote:
Former MMA fighter Aiden "Irish" O'Brien hasn’t stepped into the ring since he accidentally took someone's life in the heat of rage. When his friend calls in a favor that sends him south to check on family, Irish figures he’s got nothing to lose. His life is on the ropes. The least he can do is make sure the sexy redhead is safe.

Kat MacGregor has forty-eight hours to settle the twenty thousand dollar debt her deadbeat ex-boyfriend owes a crime boss. If she doesn’t, she’ll pay for it—with her life. Kat’s halfway out the door when a sexy new guy walks into the bar and insists he’s there to help.

Irish is forced to fight in the underground MMA circuit to win the money she needs. But he’s been lying to Kat. About who he is, about knowing her sister, about why he comes home bruised every night. She’s the best thing that’s ever happened to him, but breaking her trust will cost him the most important fight of his life: the one for her heart.
Edit.

Book #1 in the series is also $0.99 - Seducing Cinderella

Hmm, Chaz McGee started a "Dead Detective" series...but I can't remember enough about it to say whether it would fit your criteria. Two were mainstream published as Chaz McGee, and I think there were three more self-pubbed when the publisher dropped her, but she released them under a different name. I'm at work, so I'll have to look up what name it was when I get home and can check my book list.

ETA: FYI - this is not a romance series. But it's paranormal without vampires, zombies, or werewolves.

There's also the Casey Daniels series, although the tone for that is more like Stephanie Plum. Cemetery tour guide hits her head on a tombstone and starts seeing the ghosts of people buried there - and of course they all want her to solve their deaths.
