I have a Glo and was wondering how the new firmware rollout works? I've synced daily since the release and never been able to get the update (both via wifi or desktop). I know I can force the update by downloading it but was hoping just to let it load the normal way - how long does it take to roll across the entire customer base?
Thanks |

I'm in Chicago, and as of last night, my Aura hadn't gotten it yet.

Some news from last night update on the Aura:
- it went very well. No freeze, no log out/log in, nothing wrong. - no need to download the dictionaries. All nine of them were still here, waiting to search for a word. - no need to edit the affiliate.conf file to replace "fnac" by "kobo", so in sleep mode the book covers were displayed without tweaking. - with 2.5.2 and a kepub ebook, when looking at reading details (from the read percentage) the right arrow to browse through the chapters wasn't displayed and now I can see it. - all the books were there, including the sideloaded ones. So far, that's what I noticed. For the record, the 2.6.1 update was the first one which went smoothly on the Mini, since I bought it earlier this year, but I had to download again the dictionaries and to edit the affiliate.conf file. For the next update, I'll keep an eye on the Mini to see if the dictionaries vanish once again. |

I'm reading through the thread...as a new Kobo owner, I haven't seen the answer to the question I have. When I saw what this update can do I turned my wifi on. It's been over an hour and the"sync" is still going on. This is the first time I have had wifi on since I initially set up the device last month. I saw it was sucking down the battery so I plugged it in to the wall.
My question, how long does sync/update take, and is it ok to leave it plugged in while syncing (and presumably updating). Also do I have to DO anything or will it automatically apply the update? |

I'm on 2.5.1. Still "syncing". Will it go from 2.5.1 directly to 2.6.1, anyone know?

When it was taking too long on the Mini (another update), I tried to turn WIFI off and then logged out of my account. When logging in again, the update started again and went through fine.
If I couldn't turn WIFI off, I would have tried to turn the Mini off by holding the power slider for more than 10 seconds. The main thing was always to log out/log in to clear the database. Disclaimer: I don't know if by doing that way one can brick the device, it always worked for me. |

Depends. I updated last week (I was on 2.5.1, and I wanted 2.6.1), and I got 2.5.2. I also read a post implying that if you downloaded/updated the latest desktop, you would get the latest firmware, and that didn't get me 2.6.1 either.

it happened to me, but I gave up after about fifteen minutes thinking it was not normal. I unplugged, and actually the software had been downloaded, so the device asked me if I wanted to update, and that was it. This was from 2.5.1 to 2.5.2

Ok once it said "home" at the top, I turned off wifi (got a message asking if I wanted to cancel sync, I said yes). So now, with wifi off, at the top of the screen "downloading" is flashing. So I guess it is doing something. Will report back if it does.
Ok, it just kept flashing downloading. So I turned it off. Turned it back on. Turned wifi back on. Still showed last sync date 5/11/13 (when I bought it). Now it's actually syncing, I saw it download a book. I am not sure what it was doing before, for an hour or two. So maybe I will get an update this time. I updated yesterday from 2.5.1. and got 2.5.2. God dammit. The update came out about two weeks ago now. Surely they could have rolled it out to everyone right now. Why can't the software tell you what the new firmware is before they go and ask you if you want to install it?
