I haven't upgraded my Touch past 2.5.1.

Does anyone know if they've fixed the bug yet, whereby — even with widows and orphans set to zero — if the last line of a chapter falls on the last line of a page, it gets kicked over to the next page and sits there on its lonesome?

No it hasn't been fixed. Though I think I've only seen it once with 2.6.1.

I've now come to terms with the home screen, not that they make it intuitive, but I like the way you can remove the tiles.
The Sleep screen is something else though...a complete montrosity!! What were they thinking adding that hideous Sleeping box?? What was wrong with the banner??!! It's like having a big price sticker on your paperback which you can't remove for fear of damaging the cover.
Seriously Kobo, WHAT were you thinking??

You might want to consider switching to the non-full screen cover image option. It's easy to tell the difference between off and sleeping because of the difference in "frame" colours, and the text giving % read etc. is just a simple line--no tiles or boxes.

Yes, I've tried that and it is probably more aesthetically pleasing but why they had to ruin the full cover I don't understand.
It was one area where Kobo stole Kindle's thunder.

There is at least one upside to the box: they can put system notices there. That's how I found out about the "just for Glo" promo code; I looked at the Off screen and there was a short message about it. When I powered up next, the offer had a tile on the home screen.

Yes, the box is generally too big and ugly, but if they use it for worthy purposes (and if they have it resize itself intelligently), that's not so bad...

Interesting. Yes, that might make me change my mind about it but I agree with you about resizing intelligently!

Thanks David.

Yeah, it's not a deal-breaker of any kind, just kinda weird. And I guess it points to priorities: It's not a high-priority fix per se — still, for myself, I'd rather see things like basic text handling and display capabilities get perfected before time be spent on social media connectivity and gimmicks like "Reading Awards" and the like ... but that's just a personal view.

My Kobo updated to version 2.6.1 this morning after I fired up the Kobo desktop software with the device connected. Unfortunately its became a bit of a mess but some aspects sorted themselves out after I resynced with Calibre.

1. Home button seemed to be erratic, sometimes working and sometimes only responding after several presses.

2. I initially couldn't get rid of suggested items even after I have selected to ignore them.

3. A lot of entrieson my custom bookshelves have became corrupted. I'm was seeing about 30% of items per shelf as 'unknown' and at least some items that were formerly there were missing.

4. Have a tile marked 'Downloading'. Not sure what that's about. When I click it it just says 'Error loading reader! Sorry we couldn't find a reader for this type of content'.

Fortunately most of this righed itself when I connected the reader up to the PC and lauched Calibre to re-sync the content. Everything looked fine in Calibre and when I disconnected the reader from the PC, the Kobo re-processed the content and now my shelves look fine as well.

The home button is still behaving erratically though.

Try a pinhole reboot.

I manage the Kobo using Calibre. I'm not sure whether it syncs automatically, but I can't see a sync button anywhere to attempt a re-sync of Calibre with the Kobo. I have heard that it is possible to reset the bookshelves and re-import everything by deleting the database file?

The home button not working properly is the most annoying problem though.

rayhigh, you got your post in before I finished updating mine. Pinhole reboot was the first thing I tired but it made no difference. The Calibre re-sync seems to have done the trick for most part though.

I see.
I could settle for 5 mm if the same was done for the bottom.
But 5mm top and that huge bottom blank, no thanks.
I'll stay with 2.5.1 at least for the time being.

Edit: On second thought, 3mm tops and 5mm bottom with page count down there...

It is time they consider making higher screens in the future for readers so that they match paperbacks in shape. Just as TV's get wide screens, reader should have higher screens like paper books do. That way they may easily leave a blank up there with page count, title and whatever other relevant info. And we would still have an amount of lines per page like print books do.

See they can still display a lot in a box for example the box could be less then 1/3 that size Sleeping could be indicated by Zzz, percent read is a nice feature but never a deal break so why not make that display area optional including sizing it in the settings menu.

Kobo should employ a better UI designer....maybe they do not employ one at all at the moment. A lot of the UI design currently is typical of the average programmer--functionality over form. You would not see Apple for example sticking a great big text box on top of the sleeping image. Apple went too far the other way with their skeumorphic book cases, page turn animations etc, but they seem to be reining that in with the new IOS.
