Here is how they came up on the Preview report: Code:
CK-12 Geometry Kindle path: documents/CK-12 Foundation/CK-12 Geometry - CK-12 Foundation.azw Kindle code: #B0042XA2Z4^EBOK Adding collection: CK-12 Foundation (from column "Authors") CK-12 Trigonometry Kindle path: documents/CK-12 Foundation/CK-12 Trigonometry - CK-12 Foundation.azw Kindle code: #B0042XA32G^EBOK Adding collection: CK-12 Foundation (from column "Authors") *I did notice the the number of books on the CK_Foundation collection did not change (it stayed at 5), but I do not know if it is supposed to automatically or after the Kindle has been reset. After "Create Collections", I ejected and restarted/rebooted my Kindle. Nothing had changed, the CK Foundation still had the original 5 books; neither the Geometry nor the Trigonometry were added to the collection. The warnings on the report are not for any of the CK books (nor are they for the 3 books I was trying to add yesterday). I can attach a copy of the full preview report if that will help. |

@beckywc/@meme/@nynaevelan: We can't add periodicals to collections *through the Kindle UI*, but I think someone (@hooby, I think?) reported succesfully doing it through the plugin, provided cdetype is set correctly.
@meme: UTF-8 in the debug console again, which is probably the best way to deal with this, can't really think of anything else, other than an ugly decode to the system locale with errors=replace, which is probably even uglier/dirtier than just assuming UTF-8. @Nyssa: Unless there's a typo in your post, CK Foundation != CK-12 Foundation, so I can't quite see the issue ^^. The issue is that newer books are not being added to existing collections. I sent Meme some add'l info per request, so hopefully a solution can be found. |

@beckywc/@meme/@nynaevelan: Yup, we can add periodicals to collections through the plugin. Check the attached screenshots. 'My Books' is a Calibre catalog, a periodical, cdetype set to PDOC, we can't add it to a collection through the UI, yet it is in one

So, I am having an issue that seems like it should be an easy fix, but maybe because I'm heads a bit in the fog at the moment I'm having trouble with.
For some reason the plugin does not appear to be creating collections based on Author Sort. Right now I'm only trying to make collections from three things - Author Sort, Series, and Tags. The Series and Tags collections where created splendidly, but the Author Sort are non-existent regardless of what I do. Help please! ![]() |

So how do I get it set right to go into the collection, I tried changing the additional tags to [PDOC] but that doesn't change anything. What should my settings be?? |

@nynaevelan: Since I use News as my pdoc tag in the mobi output settings, I just had to tag the catalog as News before sending it to the Kindle (ie. it's now tagged +Tech Docs, Catalog, News) [+Tech Docs is my collection, cf. screenshot].

Is there anyway to tell whether Calibre is adding the PDOC to the mobi file?

@nynaevelan - The Kindle Code shown in the report ends with the cdetype. Next release will make it clearer what code is added to the file. You'll probably want to run it in debug mode and we can PM to see why it isn't working for you as it is working for me and others. I've removed the warnings about not being able to collect the files - but have added the list of books that can't be collected at the end of the report - in case some users don't want to collect them and don't want to see the warnings - but I may change this in the future once this issue settles down.
@NiLuJe/@beckywc - as NiLuJe posted, yes apparently you really can add Periodicals to Collections - but only via the plugin and not directly on the Kindle - and it keeps the magazine format! I just tried it on my test release. Downloaded a new Newspaper. It could not be added to collections using the Kindle (greyed out). Also shows up in the plugin warning as not being able to be added. Followed some steps I've added in the First Post under 'Common Setups Requiring Calibre Settings' (import, tag, send to device, delete the original file), and now the plugin can add it to a collection - but the Kindle still can't add it manually (maybe the filename). Same for Catalogues - and they seem to keep the article format - but as I don't know all the functionality of periodicals I can't be certain so I'd appreciate feedback from those willing to backup the original periodical file and test. Its not clear what if any additional facilities come from using the cdetypes MAGZ, NWPR, FEED instead of PDOC. @zyggher - thanks for pointing this out - fixed author_sort for next release @nyssa - try the next version with debug mode - I've added a lot of additional debug output - and we can PM to find out what's different on your setup |

I've noticed that all the sample books on my Kindle are generating the message "These books on the Kindle cannot appear in any collections on the Kindle because the book information is not set correctly."
I've tried resending them from Calibre but this makes no difference. I see there is information about needing to change the cdetype, but I dont see how to go about doing this. Will I need to convert these samples using Calibre, in order to use Calibre to add them to collections? I've managed to add them to collections using the Kindle. |

Realize you just took 1.4.2 down a couple of days ago, but having read the thread, I'm salivating for Kindle Collections. Any idea how long before you release 1.4.3?

Kindle Collections version 1.4.3 released
See the first post in this thread to download and install the new version.
Corrected the author_sort bug, text encoding in Edit collection titles, adding sample books to collections. Added additional extensions to ignore. Changed to notes in the report (instead of Warnings) about books that can't be collected due to their cdetype, and added lots of debug output statements to help identify issues if there are problems. Thanks to everyone for reporting issues ![]() Updated first post with information on adding News Feeds, Catalogs, and Periodicals to collections under Common Customizations in Calibre. Feedback welcome... As usual, if you have any issues, questions, suggestions, please post. Last edited by meme; 03-16-2011 at 03:27 PM. |
