It does not mean you can drop it in the ocean or swimming pool and expect it to survive, nor even expose it to a steady rainfall or lawn sprinkler. Unless the specs specifically say it is water proof to a depth of X, it is probably not as water resistant as you might think.
The Kobo Aura H2O is IP67 Certified. Waterproof for up to 30 minutes in 1M of water with port cover closed.

One thing you wold get from upgrading from your K2 is KF8 support. You could get rid of that seriously obsolete Mobi format.

If the Kindle had a small enough line height and small enough margins, I might have bought one. As it is, on an eInk Kindle you have to play tricks to get a small line height and to get a small margin. And these tricks don't work on a Kindle Fire. The default reading software doesn't like those tricks.

A great book to try on a high resolution Reader is Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson. The images (including the maps) are are very high resolution.

What I do sometimes (even for an 800x600 Reader) is look for a higher resolution map(s) as what's included is too small even for 800x600.

Generally speaking, we can't. In order to upload "one file fits most e-readers" we have to play to the specs for the e-ink readers that are not high-resolution because otherwise, you get a box with an x or garbage of the file size is too large to display. I've done a few images in some of my books and let me tell you, it's barely worth the considerable effort. For even a basic 200 by 200 pixel color anything, you have to reduce colors from 256 to 200. Otherwise, no dice on say, Kindle keyboard 3g.

So in order to provide what you're asking, a publisher would have to provide more than one file--and that would be two different products. People wanting the hi-resolution type stuff would have to buy X and those with regular readers or who didn't care, would buy Y.

I'm not saying there isn't a market for it, but it would be a separate file/product to keep track of and it becomes very difficult as you add books to a series--are you selling enough of the hi-resolution book to make it worth continuing the line, etc.

In short, I predict it won't be happening anytime soon.
I've used high resolution images with my 640 and my T1 with no problems. This includes maps and covers. I've even gone as high as 1500 lines for the cover and I've had no issues at all. The screens on the 650 and T1 are just the basic 800x600.

If a map is smaller than 1024px high, I replace it, if possible. Some of my books books now have 2500px high maps, and they work fine on the KPW.

The latest version of KindleUnpack creates a hi-resolution image directory as some eBooks now do have high-resolution images in the KF8 portion of the eBook and KindleUnpack splits them out and saves them to a separate directory. So yes, I think Amazon is trying to get more hi-resolution images in the eBooks. This means that these images would most likely also be in the ePub source as well.

So, I really thought the next Kindle would be waterproof and have page turn buttons. I wonder why they sent out the survey just weeks before announcing the KV.
if the URL is not user specific, can you please post the survey's URL?

On Kobos, nooks, & Kindles can you swipe on the left side of the screen to turn the page?

Kobo you can configure to have taps turn either way plus a swipe always goes in the same direction.

As others have pointed out, the swipe motion is on pretty much every touchscreen.

Having said that, the swipe, is not a very good motion to use to turn pages. My goal is to have the minimal motion to turn pages, not the most booklike one. The swipe is too big a motion to do for every page forward. I love it for page backs because I rarely do them.

I've seen this from a couple of people, but not from anyone who has actually tried out the Voyage. We actually don't know if this is going to be an issue or not. Given that there are settings for harder or softer press, I suspect it won't be an issue for most people and the rest will be able to remove it be changing the settings to require more force.

No exactly. You can set it up three different ways, but none of the choices offers a "tap one either edge moves the book forward" option.

You can swipe wherever on the Kindle screen it pleases you to do so. It's the direction of the swipe that determines which way the page turns, not the location of it. The location does of course matter for taps, but not swipes.

I don't suppose there is (on Voyager) a way to turn off page turn touch gestures (both tap and swipe)? That would reduce accidental page turns.
