No update on the CPU? That's disappointing. If there are two things I want is faster indexing and faster pushing buttons, most importantly changing pages. Less prone to fragmentation too would be swell.

But if you set it into the cover when you go to sleep, you get the benefits of light weight ergonomics while you read, and extra battery length over all. Or do you not sleep, as I normally have to, occasionally?

I mean, I don't think the weight difference will matter to one's luggage. It's while you read, that it is meant to make a difference. If you have the cover available, you have the extra battery life available.

I found the whole podcast very interesting but it is lengthy. On the point, go to the "Trackbacks and Pingbacks" at the bottom of the page and it's there in black and white.

My first ereader was actually a voyage based on its steller reviews and i loved it and couldn't believe i missed out on this technology for so long, unfortunatley it had 'creeking' problems and needed to be sent back and i ended getting a PW3 because i thought the 300ppi screen was the same and at half the price of the voyage i thought i might as well get it.

The screen of the PW3 is noticibly inferior to the voyage imo for whatever reason but i soon forgot about that and just concentrated on any books i had to read.

I do miss the old wikipedia menu ect, i wasnt a fan when amazon introduced the 'cards' system and i wish there was an option to use the old ui

Marvy!!! I don't listen to podcasts (takes too long) but I'm glad somebody wrote it down. Lets see if it proves true. Maybe it's via those 5 magnetic connecting dots ....

I don't wish to constantly take out the case every other night to charge it,id rather not deal with doing that at all even if the connection between the case and kindle is simple...just an added annoyance that i don't wish to do 10000 times over the lifespan of having the device.

I have to give Amazon an AAA+ for the marketing on this thing. I think I'd like the ergonomics of it but MHO a lot of the supposed "benefits" are misleading or else a trade off. It's deceptive to claim that it has "months" of battery life when that is dependent on using it with the case (assuming you are a heavy battery burn user -- if you're not then attaching the case at night might work OK) which increases the weight and removes the ergonomic benefits. And interesting to see that 8 weeks has suddenly become 2 months of battery life . Same thing with claiming it's so much lighter. For those of us who don't use a cover, we either get a whole lot less battery life or a heavier device than the older ones reading with the cover on. And of course most media is leaving out the "average" part of the "average 30%" thinner. And the 10 LED's to give better lighting is really because they are now down the side not across the bottom so they have to use 10 (and it will be interesting to see how that works out or if this will be like the 1st Nook with the lights in the top that you got to stare at while reading). Good for them coming up with all this I guess, but I'm cynical enough that this kind of B.S. in the marketing bugs me (maybe the marketing salaries are why it's so expensive ).

I'm not at all sure what you mean by the wikipedia menu or the cards system, but you do know that you can go back to just book titles, don't you? It's a setup option. I hate the large pictures of book covers and "please buy these books".

Is the leather real leather made from slaughtered animals or PU leather. I ordered one and realized cover is leather. If it is, I am canceling the order as I am an ethical, environmental and health based vegan and a proud one at that! Too bad Amazon may lose me on this.

For someone like me who only charges my device (Kobo) every couple of weeks and has never used a cover, probably the smaller battery on device itself isn't a big deal, but having to get the included battery cover would significantly increase the price of the device for me. Those who burn through their current PW or Voyage battery in a day or two or three may be forced to use to it with the cover on and give up the benefits of it being lighter. Not a big deal in some ways, but it sure takes away a lot of the incentive to pay a big premium for the Oasis.

I meant when you highlight a word or passage and want to get additional info,it use to come up almost full screen whereas the card system only shows the info in small panes towards the bottom half of the screen.

@jason90: I'm not sure even the best device will last you 27+ years, but I'm glad if yours will. Batteries don't usually recharge that long ....

@robko: If you look at a video or two, it attaches so quickly that it looks more like docking a laptop at night, not putting it into a case. I like the video in this post- I can't speak the language, so I pay attention to the kindle itself. And it's a real close up.

I usually buy one case for a kindle, and it never ever comes out of it. I'm a heavy reader - 7+ hours on the weekend, at least 3 hours week nights. But as easily as this device unhooks, I can see leaving the case on the counter, and reading with the naked Oasis. I'll treat the case more like a dock than a case. That way I benefit from the light weight (I'm having hand problems and can benefit) but it will recharge every night from the case's battery. I'll only have to plug it in less frequently that my current Voyage. As Amazon estimates, "months". [ Hah ... since I read more than 30 minutes a day, I know that's not real. But it's a figure to compare with. ]

I think there will be battery problems for some. Two weeks at 30 minutes per day is seven hours. Assume you don't remember to turn off wireless is less. Now for the big assumption. On an e ink display battery is consumed only when you turn pages. That means that if you turn pages twice as fast you get considerably less battery life. Assume you have someone that needs bigger type on a page. They turn pages more frequently because there are fewer words on a page.

So the standard deviation could be quite large. If you are a fast reader who uses font sizes twice normal and if you forget to turn off wireless I wouldn't be surprised to see battery life of four hours. Still just speculation, but we will see.
