The chances of Kindles ever supporting ePub files is vanishingly small (unless you install a third-party reading application). You can sideload Mobi and KF8 files, but not ePub.

Sorry no not epubs aderp. I mean, I hope someone works out how to apply the typesetting enhancements to books other than the ones purchased from the Amazon store.

That's going to have to wait for the reverse-engineering of the KFX format, which hopefully will occur at some point.

I have come across an example where the KFX version of a book renders so that it takes up much less space than the same book in an older format, but not in a good way.

I looked at this book on my PW2 and I noticed that on the copyright page near the beginning all of the information is compressed vertically with no gaps between paragraphs, making it difficult to read. I verified that this book is in KFX format on my kindle.

I checked the same book using Kindle for PC and found the expected gaps between paragraphs. When I looked at the KF8 version of the book from K4PC using the calibre editor I saw that the expected gaps are produced using paragraphs containing a single non-breaking space. Somehow these get lost in the KFX version.

Has anyone noticed any other problem with KFX book rendering?

ETA: I have added a third screenshot. This is the same book rendered on the Kindle when downloaded from Amazon using "Manage Your Content and Devices" in azw3 format and loaded on the PW2 via USB.

You have to understand that a pc screen has a lot more area to work with. I always see a lot of difference from the way it looks on my voyage, and my kindle for pc and even my kindle for android.

Did you try downloading it from your Manage Your Kindle page on Amazon using the "download and transfer using USB" option, and then looking at the kf8 file on your Paperwhite? I have seen cases where Kindle for PC renders things differently from an actual e-ink Kindle, even when they're using the same format.

Yeah I self-corrected that already. The CS rep statement of course pertains to Personal Documents...

I updated my kindle paperwhite and now calibre does not see any of the new books I've checked out. It can see the old ones, just not the new ones. Help?

They're probably in the new KFX format, which Calibre doesn't understand.

I just did that and updated the original post with a new screenshot. The USB-download copy (in AZW3) renders on the Kindle like the K4PC version, much more vertically spaced than the KFX version.

I prefer seeing the gaps between these paragraphs, which I think is the intended rendering for this book.

Ok, maybe I was a bit too quick, it seems Amazon doesnt even support enhanced typesetting for all new and upcoming books (which I think is pretty lame and just makes the way it's implemented all the lamer):

In the meantime use the download over usb option and you get the old KF8 file for storage in calibre. Leave the KFX on Voyage unless you want to change metadata for sorting or somesuch.

We had Amazon send the book to a 1st generation Kindle (only takes the old format) and this worked. Sometimes it's handy to keep old tech around....
