As I stated in the message I sent to you in response to your PM which you wrote in response to my message containing the link to the zipped image file, the image inside the .zip archive is approximately 4GB and, in my test, wrote happily to a 4GB Samsung µSD card mounted on my computer. From looking through my PM archives, in the last year, 23 people have used that image to revive either their Kobo N250 Aura H2O or Kobo N514 Aura ereaders so I am moderately certain the image contained in the .zip archive is capable of generating a bootable µSD card.
OTOH, I would love to know where you got that list of filenames from. |

Quick question: if you're stuck in an update loop because of new firmware you tried to sideload, do you really need to use a new MicroSD card? I don't think my card is faulty, and if possible I'd like to make things simple by, once I get the Kobo open and can remove and access the SD card, just replacing the botched firmware that's on it now with the original firmware.
And big props to DNSB for all the help s/he is giving everyone! |

If you don't have another SD card at hand, save your "broken" image before formatting, just in case.

Thank you; I'll keep that in mind! Still nervous about how I'm going to get the back of the case off... trying to jam a knife into the "seam" isn't doing anything and it feels like if I push any harder, the whole thing will break. (My Kobo is an N905B Touch from way back.)I'll save the broken contents just in case. I have the factory-install image, have been able to mount it and see inside the .img file (it contains the expected Kobo folders, including invisible ones, and default Welcome documents), and am planning to overwrite the SD card with those files. |

Hello everyone,
I have a Kobo Aura HD that developed an issue with the original system. To try to fix it, I opened the device, replaced the internal microSD card, and flashed a firmware image that was provided to me from this site. The image used was Kobo_N204B_Aura_HD. The device boots normally, the e-ink screen displays a perfect image, and it reaches the language selection screen, however the touch does not respond at all. Some important points: The screen works normally (perfect image, no artifacts) The issue is exclusively with the touch, completely non-responsive The Kobo was working normally before the software issue After replacing the microSD and installing the firmware, the touch has never responded I have already considered poor contact, but it does not appear to be the digitizer (touch) flat cable, which is the thinner one My main questions are: Is this symptom (image OK, touch completely dead) typical of incompatible firmware on the Aura HD? Can anyone confirm which .img image is the correct one specifically for the Kobo Aura HD (N204B / dragon)? Is there any additional test I can perform to reliably distinguish between a firmware issue and a physical digitizer failure? Is there any known way to fix this issue? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. |

Finally got the 'Connect to computer' or 'Set up using wifi' prompt. Wifi wouldn't connect even tho it was the correct password. I even disable my routers 5ghz and tried...no luck. Computer setup told me to go and download the desktop software which is no longer available so I was stuck unable to get out of the setup screen. I figured I'd try and sideload an update file which totally bricked it, display ended up split and unresponsive. I took the plunge and thanks to the image file from here and formatting, imaging and partitioning software and a new 8G SD card to replace the original 2G, I was able to get it going. It works great now and not a heck of a lot slower than my Clara HD. |
