I used to run the tube (toothpaste, shaving cream, whatever) over the sharp edge of the counter, bending the tube as it scraped over the edge, and that did a great job.
Then saw in Daiso (a japanese knick-knack store) toothpaste squeezers and use that now. Not as good as the edge method, but allows me to hang the tube out of the way.

Cut the wide end off the tube (not the cap end) so you can scrape it out with your toothbrush, if you want you can either leave the end open or close it with a clothes peg Thinking of toothpaste went to the dentist last week, apparently now the recommendation is to not swill your mouth out after brushing your teeth Think I will stick to swilling!

Funny, I hadn't heard this phrase before until yesterday, and now I've seen/heard it twice in 2 days.

Is this a popular saying in Australia and the UK?

Ketchup is one thing, as it's a liquid. What I don't like are the squeeze bottles of more viscous condiments such as mayonnaise and mustard. Gravity works, but only up to a point; a lot is left behind and difficult if not impossible to reach with a knife once it's at its end. Wide-mouthed jars are to be preferred.

UK, don't think I've seen/heard in Oz, except maybe from expats like me

Oz equivalent is 'as useful a wether at a ram sale'.

The way that, the very day you’ve done a monster laundry, you end up dragging your sleeve* through some food.

*Could be dribbling on a shirt or somesuch. The point being that the laundry gods will demand their tribute.

It gets about all there is to get.
I cut off the head and the crimp (tail). I cut the middle bit, mostly flat cuz I squeezed it all out, and get another one to two days from it. The head holds 3-5 days worth, and a Q-tip will get it out nicely.

Actually, I more often do this with other things, and don't bother with toothpaste. But I did just recently try it on a toothpaste tube, and got the amounts mentioned above!

On the subject of toothpaste, why is it getting runnier? Instead of that nice little firm blob, it oozes onto the brush and wants to drip off if you're not careful.

So is Smucker's grape jam and Jif Peanut Butter. I stopped buying Smucker's Grape Jam, because all of a sudden it's pourable. The peanut butter has been odd since the big recall last year or the year before. It's so greasy sometimes, not all the jars, but the large ones we buy in a 2 pack at BJ's.

Possibly the manufacturer's are reducing the amount of hydrogenated oil and other emulsifiers while hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, methylcellulose and similar additives are no longer being used. Of course, you can always buy the pure peanut variant of peanut butter which is already separating in the store. A friend of mine spent a lovely couple of weeks trying different suggestions as to how to reduce the separation. Most of them didn't work all that well but were great if you are looking for an arm workout.

Also, is it impossible to have a mint-flavoured toothpaste that isn't EXTRA FRESH AND MINTY to the point where it burns your mouth? I gag on unflavoured toothpastes and bubblegum fruity kid's toothpaste gets yucky after a while.

I keep my peanut butter in the fridge even if it's the kind that doesn't separate.
I don't like spreading goop and I don't like knives.
I use a long, straight metal "frosting" spatula.
It's long enough to reach the bottom of a 40 ounce jar without getting PB on your knuckles.
I've been eating PB for so long that I can't even say why I eat it.

No, no it is not. I've found some strawberry flavored that isn't too bad. Can't stand mint.

Yeah, probably have same problem with the bubblegum fruity flavors. Anything that sweet doesn't feel like I'm getting my teeth clean.
